Have hair to zap! You'll have to grow the hair out to a few millimeters. That's a few days of growth for most people. Too embarrassed and want to hide the face hair while it grows out? Just wear a face-mask!
DRINK WATER! The day before, the day of electrolysis, and the days after!
Moisturize the area you want treated with a light, unscented lotion.
Wash and exfoliate the area on the morning of getting electrolysis, but wait a day after to exfoliate again!
Be rested when you come in! Sleepy is okay, but not exhausted. If you are exhausted when you come in, your nerves probably won't like someone zapping your hairs.
Pain management if needed. Most of my clients use Ibuprofin or numbing cream. I have stress balls to help you relax, as well.
Don't come in with a sunburn! And don't go tanning within a few days of electrolysis! Take care of your skin!
Be off Accutane for several months! It dries out your dermis, and electro-epilation works much better (and feels better!) when the dermis is hydrated!
Don't use retinols and glycolic acids within a few days of getting electrolysis!
Don't come in within a week of a laser session either! Laser is pretty much like a sunburn on the dermis level of the skin, and you wouldn't want to be electrocuted there, then!
Don't take super hot baths/ showers! This can wash away all the oils on your skin, which lets it dry out more!
Try to cut down on caffeine the day of electrolysis. Addicted to caffeine? Then just cut back a bit! At that point, having some caffeine may be better for your nerves than suddenly not having ANY. But definitely avoid coming in all caffeined up on energy drinks!
Continue the above tips about general skin care.
However, do NOT exfoliate or shave the area for a day or two! (You can shave areas not zapped, of course.)
Continue to gently clean the skin! And don't let the area get dirty! I recommend keeping it clean and germ-free with witch hazel unless you are sensitive to it.
Moisturize the area, still! You can use a few things to moisturize. Aloe is usually the best. Light lotions are good for the skin, but do NOT use petrolium jelly or any lotions with a lot of oils and acids. But be sure to cleanse the skin to let it breathe every so often!
Other than the skin care, try not to touch the area! I know it's tempting to feel the smoothness, but try not to!
Don't do anything to introduce germs! In example, if you get your face zapped, don't go home and let the dog lick your face! This can cause acne!
Continue to stay out of the sun, or continue to use sunscreen! Your skin may be sensitive, even if it doesn't hurt!
Don't get the area all sweaty. This tends to make the area break out. Keep the moisture in the skin!
Does your skin feel warm to the touch or is it still swollen? You can use a clean ice pack on the area to make it feel better, or I can show you how I make the Freezie squares.
Soaking the body part in warm or cold water with Himalayan salt (or other bath salts) may help introduce minerals and salts back into the skin. Not hot water!
