There are two lines of my research focus: My primary line is focused on adolescent development and health. I place heavy interest in gender differences in most of my research. I am currently pursuing research utilizing a life course approach on the psychosocial impact of childhood adversities on risk behaviors in adolescents. I believe that social injustice is a fundamental cause of health inequalities. Research questions involving poverty and socioeconomic status as determinants of health have been a central theme in much of my work. I am also very interested in the inter-actions in human social relationships; hence, topics such as social integration and social networks have appeared in my current work and in my grants for research in progress.
My other line of research looks at risky sexual behaviors and sexually transmitted infections: (1) Epidemiology of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and social network analysis in a community cohort of men who have sex with men (MSM), and (2) Adherence to pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and risk compensation and incidences of sexually transmitted diseases in PrEP users in Taiwan.
