Peace and Love

"This is the voice log of Captain Naggar Singh, ATEN Security Chief. I am reporting on the activities of Pilot Araceli de Sol, and the infiltrator who also claimed that identity, in the hours prior to the battle against Theoi NUN. This report is compiled from covert observations and reviewed surveillance recordings."

"Obviously, the appearance of someone claiming to be the true Araceli de Sol was of great concern. Security Section 1 immediately requested all data on her (which we were denied), and began close surveillance, including listening devices in the school dormitories. The infiltrator made no overt moves that could have warned us. She played her part effectively, convincing everyone around her that she was a normal teenager, just like the other pilo-- just like she appeared to be. While there were gaps in our surveillance, it cannot be conclusively proven that these were the result of enemy interference."

"She made no great efforts to ingratiate herself to the other pilots, or to ATEN staff. She feigned the same confusion and worry as pilot De Sol expressed. After the initial shock, pilots Asiri and De Sol attempted to put the infiltrator at ease and become friends. (I would stress that this behavior is entirely understandable, and that NONE of the pilots bear ANY blame.) Anyway, the infiltrator became particularly close to pilot De Sol, which prompted my team to increase surveillance. If either of them was the 'doppleganger,' then we didn't want to risk an incident if they were alone together."

"My team found nothing untoward. The girls came up with nicknames for one another, so that they didn't have to address each other as 'Araceli.' Pilot de Sol became 'Quatre,' and the infiltrator became 'Paz.' Both girls seemed to genuinely bond over unanswered questions regarding their purported mother, Mariela de Sol (whose files are still above my clearance), and in a matter of school romance."

There is an audible sigh. When he continues, his voice is strained.

"It seems that there is some sort of romantic... triangle, or quadrangle, or-- there is an entanglement involving several students in their class: Isoroku Amaya, Jessica Jovovich, Rose Witherspoon, and Akemi Hayashibara. Jess and Rose are both romantically interested in Isoroku, who apparently has not formalized anything with either of them-- ANYWAY, pilot De Sol and the infiltrator attempted to aid Jess, helping her to set up a private date with Isoroku, away from the other girls. They would visit a reptile exhibit at the local zoo, perhaps see a movie-- date stuff, alright?"

"Pilot De Sol and the infiltrator were supposed to remain in hiding nearby, but the scramble order went out shortly after the date began. They reported to their stations, leaving their fellow students behind. During this time, Rose Witherspoon ran into Jess and Isoroku, and bullied them into denying their date. Isoroku was, ultimately, too embarrassed and ashamed to assert himself, which only made things worse for Jess. She had been the first to deny the date, however, as an attempt to give Isoroku an out. Still, it hurt her that he went along with it."

Captain Singh's next words are muffled, as though he has placed both palms over his face.

"I'm a mercenary, not a soap opera writer. Why the hell am I reporting on this?"
