Please help make rideshare industry safer and fairer
Due to a significant increase in fines issued to rideshare drivers by local councils for just doing their jobs, Adelaide Rideshare Drivers are implementing the following guidelines:
Understanding Driver Challenges in Adelaide: Passengers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the challenges rideshare drivers face in Adelaide currently. Please watch this informative video Adelaide Rideshare driver guidelines as at 15 August 2024 & why we need them. Info from MMM & ABC Radio
Pick-Up and Drop-Off Locations: Drivers will now only pick up and drop off passengers in legally designated parking spots, which may be several hundred meters away from your requested location as discussed in the video above at about the 8 minute mark.
Safety and Legal Compliance: Exiting the vehicle at an unsafe or illegal location without the driver’s consent will result in your trip information being reported by email to the nearest police station, the rideshare company and the council where the offense occurred. This ensures that any fines incurred are transferred to the passenger who made the booking.
Thank You for Your Cooperation: We appreciate your understanding and compliance with these necessary measures. Your support is essential in helping us provide a safe, fairer and reliable service.
If you find these rules inconvenient, we suggest considering alternative transportation options, such as taxis, which currently seem to be less affected by these fines.
Additional Notes:
Council Requests Ignored: Despite our requests for "two-minute pick-up and drop-off points" across Adelaide and Glenelg (similar to those in Brisbane <click>), the State Government and councils have not addressed these concerns and continue to issue fines. We encourage you to express your concerns to the relevant authorities.
Adelaide city in general: <click> The fines that are being charged are detailed in the provided link <click>.
Given that there are more than 5 times more rideshare vehicles than taxis in the metro area, this policy does not make sense. Reference: Department for Infrastructure and Transport, 2022-2023 Annual Report. Unfortunately, this situation will impact local businesses and our valued clients like those pictured below, particularly those who rely on convenient and safe rideshare services. Your support in addressing this issue is greatly appreciated. If you think you want this change, please join this facebook group: Lets Make Adelaide & South Australia Better <click>. Thank you.
Interesting comments/facts provided by friendly riders - Thank you:
Avigilon H5A PTZ Camera: Just letting you know that l had an interesting conversation with a rider this morning about fines we are copping. He found it really disturbing that these surveillance cameras are being covertly used for revenue raising by councils and not for the original purpose for community safety in busy areas. He said the ones that Glenelg are state of the art cameras and can capture anything they record and the footage can be zoomed in at a really close range without loss of picture quality. I was told these units are at least $16,000 each and there’s all the associated software that goes with the operation on top of the price of the cameras. Amazing what drivers can find out from riders on a trip. I can assure you that most riders feel terrible about we are having to deal with as drivers lately.
Another rider suggested we create a page showing traffic offences of non-rideshare vehicles, for example: <click>
