In November 2021, I reached out to our Fashion Design and Sculpture teacher, Selene Bautista, to enter Village in the American Institute of Architects Houston Gingerbread Design Competition.
Architecture blends aesthetic design with physical engineering, and the AIA gingerbread competition was an excellent way to lay the foundation for a broader architecture program at the Village School.
Our three student architects, chose our theme: "Home Alone". They planned out the materials and layout of the gingerbread sculpture, complete with a rice crispy treat Macaulay Culkin.
They were even featured on the Houston Chronicle!
After the event, the students connected with the ACE student mentor program for future designers! Here's looking forward to next year!
