Reading Section Overview:
Timing Breakdown: 40 questions in 35 minutes
52 seconds per question
The Reading section comes easily to some, and not so easily to others. Some students score in the low twenties on their English, Math, and Science, and in the 30s on Reading! One of the most important factors for the Reading test is the speed at which you can read and process information. The best thing that you can do to improve your reading comprehension is to read academic articles and books frequently-- at least 20 minutes per day!
Strategy: Read more books outside of school. Resourcse like iXL are also helpful to test your reading comprehension. Another strategy is to become familiar with the sections of the ACT test and figure out which section of reading is the strongest/weakest for you (the types of passages always appear in the same order-- Prose Fiction, Social Sciences, Humanities, Natural Science). Then, SKIP your most difficult test-- giving you more time for the other passages.
