Kahoot would be under the category of a drill and practice tool. I can use this tool in my classroom to see what the students are improving on, and what we still need to work on. This tool is a great way to practice those skills that you have been working on. Not only is the tool accessible on computers, it can also be used on phones, tablets or other mobile devices. This will be used in my classroom to help students review materials before exams, assignments, etc. I chose this tool because I believe that is a engaging way to review with students and it is also assessment style. Within Kahoot, you can also use this tool for fun. Need a brain break? Kahoot has many subjects and topics, or you can even crate your own!
Quizlet is another great tool to help students excel. It could be considered many different types of tools, but mainly drill and practice. The great thing about Quizlet is that everyone can create their own account and it is accessible on both mobile devices and computers. This tool is a great source for students to create their own study guides and review them in many different forms. It is also a way for them to search other or related material to learn new or more information. I will most definitely use this source in my classroom and create a Quizlet for each unit before the exam. All students will go through the “Test” review at least once while in the classroom. I would definitely choose this to help my younger students have an organized review or allow my older students to create their own reviews. While some students may not study well with online tools, they can also print out flashcards from this tool to use to study.
Prezi is another form that helps make different types of presentations, flyers, announcements, etc. Prezi would probably fall under the design category. Prezi provides map layouts that can be extremely helpful as the creator is also able to zoom in and out of different items to show relationships from item to item while presenting. One of the great aspects about Prezi is that I can share the presentation that I have made for the class lesson with all of the students so they can follow along or review it as needed. I chose to do Prezi, because it is similar, but yet different than Google Slides and PowerPoint and sometimes it is fun to do something different. Prezi has different options than the others and it is just a new material to expose children to.
Google Drawings is a great online tool that allows students to create a variety of things. They can create shapes, charts, images, textboxes, etc. Google Drawings is also a great tool for elementary students because it saves their work automatically. Within this tool, you can also crate Venn diagrams to compare and contrast. One reason I chose this is because it is easily accessible for all students, and it portrays many aspects that we will need throughout the year. It is also simple and user friendly for young students. I will use this tool in many ways throughout my classroom. In English and Math I will use the Venn diagrams for a variety of lessons. I will also use this tool as a brain break to let students create drawings of their choice to see their creativity.
WeVideo is a great online tool that can allow students to both video and record their screen. Students can create new videos, edit videos, add captions and titles, put pictures and videos together, and so much more. This tool would fit under the video category. I chose this tool over other video sites because after working with them, this one seemed the most kid friendly. I will definitely use this tool in my classroom for projects, assemblies, celebrations, etc. This site would also be a good way to create “Thank You” messages to principals, other teachers, or even “Happy Birthdays.” Of course those would be the fun aspects, but students could create their books reviews on this site and and words as needed.
Word wall is another tool that can be used in a variety of ways. This tool is sort of discovery learning, but also mind mapping. It is similar to Quizlet in the way that I could create matching sets or quizzes for my students. Word Wall is more frequently used in the Language Arts section as it takes vocabulary games and review it into the digital world. Word Wall however, give many more options such as maze chase, crossword, labelled diagram, flip tiles, airplane, whack-a-mole, quiz style, matching, and many others. I would most definitely choose this tool over many others because it is allowing students to review the material that I created, but in a fun way.
