What is Child Hunger?
You probably of a grumbling belly caused by a missed meal when you think of child hunger. However, childhood hunger is much more than a grumbling belly. It relates to children who experience food insecurity, they go without food consistently and become undernourished or malnourished. Nearly 12 million children suffered from hunger in 2020 in the United States alone.
"There is no possible excuse for children to go hungry in this country. Yet it happens - every day, in every community."
Why is it important?
Child hunger is important because the number of children suffering is continuing to rise. It is a problem that needs more awareness because these children do not deserve to lag behind. The effects of child hunger are lasting and extreme. Wasting, stunting, underweight, susceptibility to infection is greater, diabetes and other related diseases, impaired speech, damage to the brain and other organs, and so much more are all effects of child hunger.
"Without enough food or proper nutrition, kids face a variety of setbacks that can derail their path out poverty."
Seeing the effects this issues has on children absolutely breaks my heart. We need to advocate this subject and help those children in need.
