Thoughts of ACME typically involve fun, social events, but being a member of ACME provides many other benefits.
Collective representation
We continue to make progress communicating your concerns with H/R and the City Manager. Our goal is to encourage H/R and the City Manager to utilize ACME as a collective voice through which non-union staff can engage in reviewing and commenting upon proposed workplace initiatives prior to deployment. We believe this will further our goal of improving communications within the Corporation and the fostering of a positive work environment.
Constitution: SECTION 2b) - RepresentationTo represent and assist the members of the Association in matters regarding pensions, salaries, benefits, retirement, leave-of-absence, or other workplace issues, with the provisions that:(i) Any individual or group in the Association shall have the right to personally discuss any matter with the Association and with the appropriate authority appointed by Council; and(ii) Nothing in the Section shall be interpreted as intending any interference with the normal rights of ManagementACME supports its members through good times and bad. When members experience a difficult time (poor health, death in the family, etc) or a happy one (retirement, birth/adoption of a child, etc), ACME will send a card and/or gift.
Constitution: SECTION 8 - GoodwillUpon notification to the Goodwill Chair, suitable gifts or flowers, or confections will be sent to Association members who are absent from duty for periods in excess of ten (10) days by reason of sickness or accident, or a new child. Gifts of flowers or donation will be sent upon the death of an Association Member or Parent, Spouse, Child, Sibling, Grandparent, Grandchild, including “Step-”, “half-” and In-law. We hope you stay with us for a long time, but we are happy to see you go. :)
When you retire, you will receive a monetary gift from ACME relative to your years of service. You are also invited to continue your membership in ACME as a Retired Member, at a reduced annual membership rate ($60/yr). Retired Members are eligible for all benefits (not related to active Human Resources matters) and to attend and volunteer at all events.
Constitution: SECTION 9 - RetirementUpon leaving the service of the City, as a member of ACME, that the member receive after one year $20.00 per year of service. Not to exceed $150.00 from Association funds. In some cases, at the discretion of the Officers, the Association contribution may become part of a more substantial farewell gift sum being voluntarily contributed by various persons wishing to honour this member. Upon retirement, ACME will provide the Member with the option of receiving a paid lifetime membership in the Municipal Retirees Organization Ontario (MROO). The 2024/25 scholarships have been awarded. Thank you to everyone who applied and congrats to the winners.
2025/26 applications will be available in Spring 2025.
We present two $500 scholarships each year to the children or dependents of ACME members entering a post-secondary program. Recipients of these scholarships are selected by ACME Executive based on academic achievement.
Constitution: SECTION 10 - ScholarshipThe Association of Civic Management Employees will present two (2) annual scholarship awards, in the amount of $500 each. Selection to be made by the ACME executive based on the highest academic achievement. In addition to the Scholarships presented each year, the names of all other applicants will be entered into a random draw with the winner being presented an award of $250.
Constitution: SECTION 10A - Educational AwardIn addition to the scholarship awards referenced in Section 10, the Association of Civic Management Employees will present an annual educational award in the amount of $250. The award will be made to the winner of a random draw made from the names of all eligible candidates who submitted applications for the scholarships referenced in Section 10, excluding the names of the 2 successful applicants for those scholarships.
