• Doctrine: As part of the Anglican Communion, the Anglican Church of Kenya follows traditional Anglican doctrine. The church emphasizes the importance of Scripture, tradition, and reason. Anglicanism is known for its balance between Catholic and Protestant practices, including the use of liturgy, sacraments, and creeds such as the Nicene Creed.

• Sacraments: The Anglican Church of Kenya administers two primary sacraments—Baptism and Holy Communion—as well as other sacramental rites such as confirmation, marriage, and ordination.

• Liturgy: The church follows a liturgical tradition with regular services that include hymns, prayers, and readings from the Bible. The Book of Common Prayer (BCP), a central liturgical text in Anglicanism, is often used in worship services.

Organization and Leadership

• Province of the Church: The Anglican Church of Kenya is part of the global Anglican Communion. The church is structured into dioceses, with each diocese led by a bishop. The church is led by a Primate, who is the Archbishop of the Church of Kenya. The current Archbishop is Jackson Ole Sapit, who became the Archbishop in 2016.

• Dioceses: The church is divided into multiple dioceses across Kenya, each with a bishop. The dioceses are further divided into parishes, which serve local congregations. These dioceses cover both urban and rural areas, and each parish provides a place of worship, spiritual guidance, and community services.

Role in Society

• Education: The Anglican Church of Kenya has a strong presence in education, operating numerous schools throughout the country, ranging from primary schools to universities. These schools are known for their academic standards and moral teachings, often integrating Christian values into their curriculum.

• Health Services: The church runs various health institutions, including hospitals, clinics, and dispensaries, serving both urban and rural populations. These health services are often aimed at addressing the needs of the poor and marginalized communities.

• Social Services: The ACK is involved in numerous social justice initiatives, including poverty alleviation, promoting gender equality, HIV/AIDS awareness, and advocating for the protection of human rights.

• Evangelism and Missionary Work: The Anglican Church of Kenya is also involved in missionary work both within the country and internationally, especially in Africa. The church promotes evangelism through its diocesan activities, outreach programs, and media presence.

Challenges and Opportunities

• Socio-Political Engagement: Like many churches in Africa, the ACK is often involved in socio-political matters, especially concerning issues like governance, peace, and social justice. The church has been vocal on issues such as corruption, human rights, and the promotion of national unity.

However, like many churches worldwide, the ACK faces challenges in retaining younger generations in the face of secularization and the rise of other religious movements.

• Interfaith Dialogue: Kenya is home to people of many different faiths, including Islam, Hinduism, and various African traditional religions. The Anglican Church of Kenya promotes interfaith dialogue and cooperation to foster peace and mutual understanding.
