Vica's accomplishments in swimming
"I started swimming when I was nine years old. My first team was BlazeSports in 2010. I was one of three swimmers who started BlazeSports. I then started Dynamo Swim Club at the end of 2013. In 2015, I went to my first International swim meet, Canadian/American Games. In 2016, I went to the Paralympic Trials, and I had all time bests in my 200 butterfly, 50 butterfly, and 100 free. In 2017, I went to World Trials at the Air Force Academy in Colorado. In March of 2018, I went for the 400 I.M. American Record and I was the first S5 to get this record. In April 2018, I was awarded the golden peach award for disabilities. In 2019 and 2020, I broken my American record in the 400 I.M.
"The beginning of 2020 was a time of silence, fear, and unknown for many, but for me it was the opportunity to talk to college coaches. I talked to division 1 and division 2 colleges."
"At the end of June, I found the perfect college for me. This summer was a time where we could not go visit colleges but we could video chat and text. The college I chose was the right choice for me. I will be the first Paralympic Swimmer on the team and the first Paralympics athlete to go to Emmanuel College. On November 21, I signed my National Letter of Intent to Emmanuel College."
Some obstacles Vica has faced
"Some of the obstacles I have faced being a little person in swimming are how small I am, so it is harder to reach things, and how you get run over by other swimmers. I have to explain to the swimmers how to swim with me so I can stay safe."
"Being a little person, I have learned that you should always ask for help, but for me I always want to try to do something on my own first. I want people to let me try something on my own and then let me ask for help. I don’t like when people do things for me because you never learn if people do things for you all of the time."
