Malacca is a city rich in history and culture, but it faces many challenges in preserving its heritage and engaging its youth. One way to address these issues is to create a creative hub that combines local art and digital technology. In this essay, I will explain how this idea can benefit the city and its people.
The Artifak Peneroka, a creative hub is built where artists, entrepreneurs, and innovators can collaborate and showcase their work. It can also serve as a learning center for the public, especially for the youth. By inviting local artists who draw the old Malacca that they experienced as their ‘memory of their home’, the creative hub can celebrate the city’s past and present. These artists can share their stories and skills with visitors and inspire them to appreciate the beauty and diversity of Malacca.
The creative hub also introduces digital art workshops that teach the basics of sketching, painting, and animation using computers and tablets. The purpose of these workshops is to attract local youth who are interested in digital media and art. By providing them with a positive and creative outlet, the creative hub can help them avoid getting involved in illegal activities such as drugs and illegal racing. The workshops can also educate them about the history of Malacca and its cultural heritage, and encourage them to express their own identity and vision through digital art.
The idea of these two main activities is to create a circulation of users who will come back to the building again and again. They will learn new skills and knowledge and form connections and friendships with other artists and learners. The creative hub can thus become a vibrant and dynamic space that fosters creativity, innovation, and community.
