ARTIFAK PENOREKA is envisioned as a transformative cultural nexus within Malacca’s historic fabric, designed to bridge heritage preservation with future-forward digital innovation. The architectural concept materializes as a collaborative, multi-functional ecosystem where local artists, tech innovators, and the youth intersect within an experiential learning environment. Anchored by the spatial narrative of the "memory of home", the design establishes a fluid dialogue between the past and the present, translating senior artists’ intimate, lived recollections of old Malacca into interactive, technology-driven installations. By synthesizing traditional cultural motifs with adaptive, open-plan spaces, the hub transcends passive preservation—actively engaging the next generation and revitalizing the city’s identity through an immersive, participatory architectural experience.
The creative hub also introduces digital art workshops that teach the basics of sketching, painting, and animation using computers and tablets. The purpose of these workshops is to attract local youth who are interested in digital media and art. By providing them with a positive and creative outlet, the creative hub can help them avoid getting involved in illegal activities such as drugs and illegal racing. The workshops can also educate them about the history of Malacca and its cultural heritage, and encourage them to express their own identity and vision through digital art.
The idea of these two main activities is to create a circulation of users who will come back to the building again and again. They will learn new skills and knowledge and form connections and friendships with other artists and learners. The creative hub can thus become a vibrant and dynamic space that fosters creativity, innovation, and community.
