Mixed-species Stands

The shade-tolerant bigleaf maple can be grown in any crown position in stands with mixed species or age classes. Management of mixed stands is complex; stands may require periodic treatments to maintain the growth of diverse components. Bigleaf maple stump sprouts must be controlled or thinned to prevent the early suppression of associated seedlings. Later treatments may be needed to maintain growth of bigleaf maple when intermixed conifers ultimately reach their superior height.

Drying and Shrinkage

Under properly controlled conditions, bigleaf maple can be successfully kiln-dried in a short time with a minimum of degrade. The most prevalent drying defects are end checks and collapse, or mold growth that causes stained wood. The average green MC is 72 percent (ovendry basis.)

So it's good to see Acer Inc. take a serious stab at the problem with its new Revo RL100. The Windows PC is designed from the ground up to fit into an entertainment center. It's smaller than most DVD players and very quiet.

There's a USB jack and a slot for a memory card on the front of the unit, but you have to go to the back to find two more USB jacks and the headphone jack. That's not a wonderful layout for something designed to be stuck in an entertainment center. But the back-facing headphone jack isn't an issue if you connect the Revo through a receiver, as I did, as receivers have headphone jacks of their own.

The Revo has a room for improvement in the control department as well. For the next model, I hope Acer figures out how to add mouse buttons and a permanently accessible keyboard to the wireless controller.

The Ranger required a complete motor control system and a laser measuring scanner. I installed Ubuntu all seems to work well except Bluetooth, in the control center pane, selecting the 'bluetooth manage icon I get the error daemon BlueZ is inactive . tried several times pressing on/off the bluetooth button on the keyboard, alway same result.

An on-screen display (OSD) is a control panel superimposed on a computer monitor, mobile device, television screen or another electronic device display that enables users to select viewing options and/or adjust components of the display, such as brightness, contrast, and horizontal and vertical positioning.

On a television screen, an on-screen display can usually be activated either through buttons on the television set itself or through the remote control. Television on-screen displays are becoming increasingly complex and interactive.

We conducted two experiments to determine the usefulness of a chlorophyll content meter (CCM) for the measurement of foliar chlorophyll concentration in sugar maple (Acer saccharum Marsh.) in the fall color period. In Experiment 1, four sugar maple trees were visually assigned to each of four fall foliage color categories in October 1998. On four dates in the fall of 1999, leaves were taken from the trees and analyzed for chlorophyll concentration by absorbance of pigment extracts and by determination of the chlorophyll content index (CCI) with a CCM. The two measures of chlorophyll concentration were strongly correlated (P < 0.001, r2 = 0.72). In Experiment 2, the CCI of leaves from sugar maple trees subjected to one of four fertilization treatments (lime, lime + manure, lime + 10:10:10 N,P,K fertilizer and an untreated control) were determined with a CCM. Treatment effects were distinguishable between all pairwise comparisons (P < 0.001), except for the lime versus lime + NPK fertilizer treatments.

Pressing any of the control keys brings up a small set of icons that hover over the buttons' positions. G stands for game mode and will call up one of three presets. The needle icon represents overdrive. Next is volume, then input and finally the main OSD.
