Rent a Home
The Problem
Available online renting websites have cluttered designs and confusing checkout processes.
The goal
Design a Rent a Home’s website to be user friendly by providing clear clear navigation and offering a fast checkout process.
The Product
Rent a Home is a rental homes website that offers examples of appartments and houses that are being put up for rent. Rent a Home’s goal is to help users find a place to stay without any difficulties
My role
UX designer leading the Rent a Home’s website design.
Responsibilities
Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.
Project duration
October 2021 to November 2021
After I conducted user interviews I made empathy maps based on them in order to better understand the user needs. I discovered that some users search the internet for a better home to move in by themselves or with their family.
User pain points
1.Choices
Users usually don't find the right home for them because sites don't offer so many rentals.
2.Navigation
Rental websites are often too complicated for many users and they do not know how to properly use the websites.
3.Time
Working adults are too busy to spend time searching for home on foot and it is much easier to look online.
Persona & problem statement
Rick is a busy engineer that is recently married who needs intuitive website navigation and search filters in order to find rental homes quickly.
User journey map
I created a user journey map of Rick’s experience using the site to help identify possible pain points and improvement opportunities.
Sitemap
Difficulty with website navigation was a primary pain point for users, so I used that knowledge to create a sitemap.
Digital wireframes
Moving from paper to digital wireframes made it easy to understand how the redesign could help address user pain points and improve the user experience.
Usability study findings
1.Phone
Users did not find the phone button easily.
2.Checkout
Users couldn't fill in properly their addresses.
3.Cart
Users could'nt add more homes at the same time in the cart.
Mockups
Based on the insights from the usability study, I made changes on the website’s renting flow. One of the changes I made was to add filters on the search bar for users to find what they want more easily.

After usability studies
High-Fidelity prototype
My hi-fi prototype followed the same user flow as the lo-fi prototype and included the design changes made after the usability study.

Accesibility considerations
1.Icons
I used iconography in order for users to easily understand the user flow.
2. Checkout
Users weren’t able to easily copy the shipping address information into the billing info field
Takeaways
Impact:
Our target users shared that the design was intuitive to navigate through and had a clear visual hierarchy.
What I learned:
I learned how important a usability study is in order to make a better project One of the most important takeaways are to always focus on the user needs.
Next steps
1.Conduct additional usability study on the new website.
2.Always try to improve the website based on feedback from users.
