We specialise in the dynamic field of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), focusing on diverse applications such as heat transfer, mixing, and turbulence. Our expertise extends to tackling computationally intensive CFD problems, and we are committed to enhancing performance through innovative high-performance computing (HPC) methodologies. Leveraging multi-core clusters and GPGPU platforms, we aim to optimise simulations for efficiency and accuracy.
In recent years, our primary focus has been on addressing flow problems involving moving boundaries. Within this domain, we have spearheaded the development of computationally efficient algorithms based on the immersed boundary method (IBM). This approach enables us to effectively handle moving boundary problems in a wide range of applications. Our implementations have proven successful in predicting flow patterns and heat transfer in complex scenarios, including but not limited to the aerodynamics of flapping wings, casting processes, motion of fins, and the behaviour of deformable arteries. As a cohesive group, we continue to push the boundaries of CFD research, constantly seeking new challenges and contributing valuable insights to both engineering and biological realms. Our dedication to advancing the field is evident in our ongoing efforts to refine and apply IBM-based algorithms for simulating intricate and dynamic phenomena.
Recently, we have started working on enhancing CFD numerical solutions using HPC and AI. Our group has recently started working on implementing Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) algorithms for Immersed Boundary implementations. We are also working on the development of Meshless methods for CFD, multiscale algorithms for efficient scalable computing, and additive manufacturing.
In recent years, we have been able to publish our research works in some of the recognisable journals like the Journal of Computational Physics (JCP), Journal of Fluid Mechanics (JFM), Physical Review Fluids (PRF), Journal of Heat Transfer (JHT), International Journal of Thermal Sciences (IJTS), Physics of Fluids (POF), Computers and Fluids, etc.
