Writing scaffolds exist for all levels of writing and are designed to support students by providing examples, models, and structures for each step of the writing process.
Sentence frames provide language for students to help them complete the writing task you have assigned. Sentence frames also provide language models to students who are learning to use academic English (which is the language of formal writing in school.) Providing sentence frames does not mean you are doing the thinking for your students! If you are worried about students all using the same sentence frame in their responses, provide multiple sentence frames that students can choose from.
Make sure to explicitly model to students how to use sentence frames when you introduce them into your teaching.
Summarizing is a skill that many students struggle with. They benefit from explicit instruction on how to write a summary. One place to start is with a one-sentence summary or summary statement. Here are some summary writing resources

This is a great exit ticket activity to help students develop awareness around the purpose of classwork that is generally easy to complete and/or copy.
