Arts in Education - Arts in Education introduces students to cultural activities in the Capital District area. Programs are designed to enhance student’s education by relating in-school studies with real-life events either by taking the students to performances outside of Acadia or by bringing performances to Acadia. The chair of this committee is responsible for working with staff and the tri-building Arts in Education Team to recommend programming and keep annual programming running. The Chair also recommends and follows a budget and ensures invoices are given to the Acadia PTA Treasurer to be paid.
Audit Committee - The audit committee will review the monthly treasurer's report and reconciliations periodically during the year and at the end of the year to create an end-of-year audit report.
Black & Orange Dance/Fall Ball - The fall dance will be planned this year in collaboration with students at the October 15 PTA meeting. The Chair organizes and plans the dance with building administration and PTA board. Volunteers are needed to help set up, run the concessions, help throughout the event, and clean up. The 2025 dance will be November 7.
Book Fair - Book fairs provide students and parents with the opportunity to purchase books at school. The 2025 Acadia Book Fair will be from November 17-21. The chair coordinates the book fair with Scholastic. Volunteers are needed to help the children with their purchases.
Budget Committee - The budget committee will work with the treasurer and president to prepare a budget to submit for approval. The audit committee will review the treasurer's report and reconciliations periodically during the year and at the end of the year to create an end-of-year audit report.
Bylaws Committee - The bylaws committee will work with the Executive Committee to review the Acadia PTA bylaws and recommend any changes to submit to membership for approval.
Fundraising - Adequate fundraising is needed for the PTA to operate all of its programs and events for the school year. The Raise Craze, fall dance, and school photos are the largest fundraisers typically done at Acadia. The fundraising chair is responsible for proposing and organizing additional fundraisers or committees for individual fundraisers as needed throughout the year! This includes things like restaurant nights, apparel sales, etc.
Honorary Life Member Award Committee - Honorary Life is a program where parents and staff nominate fellow parents, PTA volunteers, teachers, and community members to receive the award and distinct honor of an Honorary Life Membership to the PTA. The recipients are recognized at a special Shenendehowa district-wide awards dinner usually held in early spring. The chairperson is responsible for the distribution and receipt of program information and nomination forms, as well as acting as a liaison to the district's Honorary Life Membership Committee.
Membership - The Membership chair is responsible for promoting Acadia PTA membership to everyone involved at Acadia. This person will use the Givebacks system to monitor and maintain online membership status and dues, as well as enter any new paper membership forms received.
Moving Up Day (8th Grade) - This event celebrates the Acadia 8th Grade class and their move up to high school. The chair works with Acadia administration to assist with decorations or other requests with the moving up day ceremony. The chair also works with school staff to coordinate t-shirts provided as a gift from the Acadia PTA for the 8th grade trip (usually in March).
Odyssey of the Mind - The Odyssey of the Mind program teaches students how to think divergently by providing open-ended problems in a team setting. Embedded in the process are 21st Century skills such as creativity, innovation and problem solving, critical thinking, global awareness, interpersonal and collaborative skills, self-direction, and adaptability. The chair would be responsible for registering an Acadia PTA team and working with any interested students for the duration of the program.
School Pictures - The chair works with appropriate vendors and school administration to coordinate and schedule fall and spring pictures as well as an 8th grade panoramic photo. The fall photos are the traditional student and class photos.
Reflections - The Reflections Program is a national PTA-sponsored contest showcasing the importance of the arts in education. Students are encouraged to create works of art in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and/or visual arts. Each year a new student-submitted theme is selected by National PTA and students are asked to interpret that theme in their work. The chair and committee register our PTA, gather student entry forms, collect and catalog student entries, coordinate judging, submit school winners to the regional level according to program rules, and coordinate with Acadia staff to recognize student participants and award winners.
Scholarship - Acadia PTA awards scholarships to two deserving members of the Shenendehowa High School senior class who formerly attended Acadia and meet specific criteria. A committee of Acadia parents and teachers select recipients based on merit. The chair collects applications from the High School, redacts personal identifying information, distributes applications and review criteria to the committee for review, and communicates outcomes to appropriate school staff and PTA board members for awards to be distributed.
Staff Appreciation - The chair and committee plan and coordinate various staff appreciation events throughout the year. Additional volunteers or donations may be needed. Typically an event will be planned to welcome staff back to school in September, and during staff/teacher appreciation week in May, as well as other various times throughout the year
Webmaster/Social Media - This chair is responsible for maintaining timely and up to date information, news, and reminders on the Acadia PTA website and Facebook page. The chair works with the PTA Executive Committee to develop methods and materials to engage the Acadia community (families, students, teachers, staff, and community members) using the above communication tools.
