In this lesson students will learn about the leader of the Abstract Art Movement, Wassily Kandinsky.
1. Students will paint Kandinsky's concentric circles (left).
2. Students will create many different arrays out of 24 squares, and write and solve the related multiplication equations.
In this lesson students will learn about one of the leaders of the Abstract Expressionism Movement, Jackson Pollock.
3. Students will paint action style.
4. Students will develop a narrative writing piece based on their painting experience.
In this lesson students will learn about one of the leaders of the Abstract Expressionism Movement, Mark Rothko.
5. Students will learn about how different colors relate to different feelings, and create poetry.
6. Students will paint color-field style.
In this lesson students will apply all that they have learned in lessons 1-6 to create their own original piece of abstract artwork.
7. Students will plan and create their own original piece of artwork based on inspiration from artists Kandinsky, Pollock, and Rothko.
8. Students will write an artist statement about their original piece of artwork.
Set up an art show to display students' original abstract artwork along with their artist statements. Invite students' families, and other classes to view your classroom's art show.
