Past Professional Visual Artist and art consultant Services

Ms. Afrika Abney attended Bell from 1991-1993. She graduated in 1993 and was 16 at that time. Years later, Ms. Abney donated the painting shown in the above photo. Additionally, she gave away the clothing articles and jewelry shown in the photo above.

Ms. Abney's art teacher when she was a student was Mr. Jorge Somarriba. 


While, Ms. Abney was a high school student, she was invited to participate in the Congresswoman's Art Competition which took place in 1992 and 1993. During that time, she became a consultant.  

Ms. Afrika Abney has provided photography services for numerous events that took place in the past hosted by Esther Productions, Inc and BZB International.

Ms. Afrika Abney's past professional visual artist and art consultant services include art workshops, community career day visual art workshops and photography. Additionally, she provided services for several galleries and museums. Some of them include: The New Harlem Gallery (1992-1993) and the Phillips Collection (2000) and the Anacostia Art Gallery and Boutique from 2010 – 2011. 

ART CONSULTANT. Anacostia Art Gallery and Boutique. 2010 - 2011. Responsible for promoting several events. 

GALLERY ASSISTANT. Phillips Collection. 2000. Responsible for monitoring and keeping artwork safe during gallery hours. 

ART CURATOR. New Harlem Gallery, New York City. 1992 - 1993. Installed art for some of the exhibitions held at the New Harlem Gallery. 

ART WORKSHOPS

Ms. Afrika Abney has had the opportunity to provide several art workshops to children and youth in the past. Some of the services that she offers as it relates to art workshops includes:









COMMUNITY CAREER DAY VISUAL ART WORKSHOPS


Ms. Afrika Abney has had the opportunity to conduct several career day workshops as a presenter which took place at various D.C. Public Schools. She spoke about her visual arts career at Calvin Coolidge High School in 1996 (invited by Ms. Angela Cook) and at Eliot in 2016 (invited by Ms. Ophelia Morgan).

In 2016, Ms. Afrika Abney was invited by Ophelia Morgan to participate in Eliot's Career Day. Ms. Abney spoke about her visual arts career to a group of middle school students.


Ophelia Morgan "is the manager of strategy and logistics at Eliot-Hine Middle School. Elliot-Hine is an International Baccalaureate school. Eliot-Hine has dedicated staff who are committed to serving every student regardless of their history, background, or personal circumstance. In her free time, Ms. Morgan enjoys spending time traveling with her 5-year old and husband."

In 2017, Ms. Afrika Abney visited Rock Creek Park. She threw away all of the items shown in the above photo for various reasons.


Ms. Abney has not returned back to Rock Creek Park since 2018.
