Advisor - Mr. R. Prathapnayaka
Brief Description
Brief Description
- Completed the preliminary design of a single-stage axial-flow turbine.
- Adopted mean line design to estimate properties at stator and rotor of the turbine by performing simple thermodynamic calculations.
- Employed free vortex method to estimate properties at the tip and root of the blades and consequently generated the 3-D blade geometry using SOLIDWORKS.

Brief Description
Brief Description
- Evaluated OpenFOAM (Open source software) as a viable replacement to FLUENT (Commercial CFD tool) for incompressible turbulent flow problems.
- Analyzed 15 Eaton products by comparing the flow properties predicted by FLUENT and OpenFOAM.
- Suggested necessary changes for fidelity improvement of the in-house OpenFOAM GUI.
- Contributed towards a saving of $100,000 per year by the firm upon reducing 5 FLUENT licenses.
