My first Med-Surg 1 clinical at Sonoma Specialty Hospital in Sebastopol was both exciting and nerve-wracking. I was able to do physical assessments and pass medications, while also learning how prioritize patient care and manage my time effectively. This was my first experience of working with real patients, rather than mannequins, and it was incredibly valuable, allowing me to apply my foundational knowledge in a practical setting.

My geriatrics foundations clinical at Lourdes Convent in San Rafael was an eye-opening experience that challenged my perceptions about caring for older adults. I was so moved by the stories shared by the residents, which not only enhanced my communication skills but also fostered my appreciation for the complexity of geriatric care.

During my Med-Surg 2 clinical, I experienced a significant leap in autonomy and hands-on learning compared to my previous rotations. I had the opportunity to manage multiple patients, administer IV piggyback medications under supervision, and even assist in critical situations, which gave me a thrilling glimpse into the world of critical care nursing.

Psychiatric-Mental Health

Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital

My psychiatric clinical at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital was an very different experience compared to my previous rotations. I found it was a challenge to overcome the initial fears and preconceptions about mental health patients. This clinical rotation not only improved my psychiatric nursing skills but also fostered personal growth, leaving me with a deeper appreciation for the importance of mental health care in holistic patient treatment.

Women's Health/Maternity

CPMC Van Ness

My maternity clinical at CPMC Van Ness was such an incredibly enriching experience that brought what I saw in nursing textbooks to life. The unpredictable nature of labor and delivery kept me on my toes, and I found myself deeply moved by the unique journey of each patient I encountered. This clinical rotation deepened my understanding of the emotional support required in maternity nursing and a profound appreciation for the miracle of childbirth.

CPMC Van Ness

My pediatrics clinical at CPMC Van Ness was an eye-opening and rewarding experience that solidified my passion for working with children. I was particularly impressed by the presence of Child Life Specialists, who taught me invaluable techniques for communicating with young patients and their families, helping to alleviate their fears and build trust.

CPMC Mission Bernal

My last med-surg rotation in the ICU at CPMC Mission Bernal was a challenging yet fulfilling experience that pushed me far beyond my comfort zone. Initially, I felt overwhelmed by the critically ill patients, and the fast-paced environment, but as the rotation went on, I gained so muchconfidence in my abilities to provide care in high-stakes situations. The experience inspired me to consider critical care as a potential career path.

Community Health Nursing

Panorama Elementary School (Daly City)

My community health clinical as a school nurse at Panorama Elementary School was an eye-opening experience that showcased the diverse responsibilities of nursing in a non-traditional healthcare setting. I found myself not only addressing immediate health concerns but also playing a crucial role in health promotion and disease prevention through education on topics like proper handwashing, nutrition, and physical activity. This experience highlighted the significant impact school nurses have on shaping healthy habits and fostering wellness in the community from an early age.

USCF St. Francis Memorial Hospital

My senior preceptor rotation on the med-surg floor at UCSF St. Francis Memorial was such a amazing experience and opportunity. Working closely with my preceptor, I gained confidence in managing multiple patients, honed my critical thinking skills, and learned to prioritize care effectively in a fast-paced environment. This rotation not only solidified my clinical skills but prepared me for the transition from student to professional nurse.
