While working with the staff at Sheldon Dentistry, I completed the job of a sterilization technician. My work consisted of sterilizing then organizing dental tools for the dentists and assistants, as well as greeting and conversing with the patients before and after their appointments. At Sheldon Dentistry not only did I gain technical knowledge, but also practical experience with topics like infection control, bedside manner, and workflow procedure in smaller practices. I additionally worked closely with my coworkers where I gained a lot of the knowledge I now have about medical practices and medical terminology. I was taught from my coworkers a lot about teamwork and how to foster satisfaction from patients and quality care. I know in the future these skills will come in handy when I will be responsible for ensuring efficiency, quality of care, and satisfaction from both patients and staff I work with. By completing these tasks I learned many vital skills which will be beneficial for my future as a healthcare administrator or leader.
While working as a cashier at Prime N Tender I assisted customers in completing their purchases, recommending products, stocking shelves, and working busy lunch rushes with my coworkers. By doing this, I have the opportunity to develop my communication skills with coworkers, problem solve under stressful situations, and improve customer service skills. Working in customer service for such a long period of time has made me into the confident person I am today, and the great leader I know I can be in the future. I believe that these are some of the most important baseline skills that will be able to assist me in becoming a confident and capable leader in the healthcare field.
During my time at Grove Dental I was able to help the process of transferring all patient files from paper to electronic health files. I indexed files alphabetically and reviewed them for proper information prior to the transfer. I had the chance to learn many different critical skills. Filing patient documents gave me the opportunity to strengthen my general knowledge of electronic medical records, my collaboration skills, attention to detail, as well as my organizational development. Much of what I learned here are important transferable skills that I can utilize along my professional journey. If expected to oversee departments or other employees, my organizational skills and proper management of patient information will be necessary. I feel as if this also has prepared me well for future teamwork and striving as a leader for efficiency with a department, group, or other staff.
