Food Safety and Quality
ABHHISRAY FOOD PRODUCTS is committed to manufacturing the safest food products available. In order to meet that goal, ABS operates its own microbial reduction systems employing Ethylene Oxide and Propylene Oxide fumigants. These FDA-approved, third-party validated processes are effective in eliminating harmful pathogens and reducing other microbial loads inherent to agricultural products. Unlike many other spice distributors and manufacturers, ABHHISRAY's MixnJoy Spices has developed unique expertise in the use and application of these treatment methods and manages these processes in-house. As a result, we maintain tighter control of the quality, safety, and compliance of our treated products.
Ethylene Oxide and Propylene Oxide treatment methods have been used for decades throughout the low-moisture food and pharmaceutical industries to safely and effectively eliminate pathogens like Salmonella and E. Coli. They are recognized as some of the most effective and widely accepted microbial reduction technologies available to the food industry. In addition to our in-house treatment methods, ABHHISRAY can offer third-party Irradiation treatment based on customer requirements.
To mitigate the risk of foodborne illness, we also follow the recommendations from The American Spice Trade Association on the use of validated treatment methods including Ethylene Oxide and Propylene Oxide.
Elite’s in-house, third-party validated microbial reduction processes ensure food safety while protecting the critical attributes of flavor, color and wholesomeness of spices. Additionally, since these methods are considered momentary processes, rather than additives, the inherent labeling of the natural spice is preserved.
Ethylene Oxide (ETO) – Historically relied on by the Food and Pharmaceutical Industries, ETO continues to be used to ensure the sterility of surgical equipment and medical devices and supplies. It has been utilized by the Food Industry since 1939, when the technology was developed to safeguard the food rations of U.S. soldiers in World War II.
Propylene Oxide (PPO) – Similar to ETO, PPO has long been used by segments of the food industry to eliminate harmful bacteria and minimize the growth of yeasts and molds.
Steam sterilization or Irradiation is available through third-party service providers and can be offered based upon a customer requirement or unique specification.
