Participants will be organized into mock review panels to review three proposals prepared in the style of NASA ROSES application calls.
Goals:
- Learn how to review a NASA ROSES style proposal [instruction led by Dr. Marc Neveu of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center]
- Review three proposals
- Participate in a review panel for 1-2 hours in a small group of 6-8 participants to rate the proposals' merits
- PROJECTED TIME COMMITMENT: 6-8 hours over 3 weeks
This is an individual activity to prepare an itemized budget for a previously prepared proposal in the NASA ROSES-style format.
Goals:
- Learn how to create a budget document to become familiar with the budget creation process necessary in any proposal
- Be able to find and estimate the specific costs associated with items listed in a previous proposal
- PROJECTED TIME COMMITMENT: 2-3 hours.
- Participants should also join the Proposal Review Panel in addition to this workshop to gain the best experience.
This workshop, led by Explainables, will focus on communicating science topics between disparate fields and cultures. Astrobiology is inherently an inter/multidisciplinary and international research field, where such skills are needed.
Goals:
- How to explain topics to students/researchers from other fields and disciplines
- Preparation for discussions during the main conference through interactive group activities
- Those who would like to practice discussions in English in preparation for AbGradCon are highly encouraged to attend!
- PROJECTED TIME COMMITMENT: 4 hours in one session.
- There is the possibility to attend two sessions for more advanced topics (another 4 hour commitment).
This workshop, led by Explainables, will focus on networking for scientists, an important skill that can help early career researchers build a research network for future collaborations.
Goals:
- How to network effectively as students
- How to navigate digital meetings and workshops for effective networking
- Preparation for discussions during the main AbGradCon conference
- Other topics may include: branding for scientists and science topics
- Those who have not had much experience attending scientific meetings are highly encouraged to attend!
- PROJECTED TIME COMMITMENT: 4 hours in one session.
- There is a possibility to attend two sessions for more advanced topics (another 4 hour commitment).
