Project Type: Group Project (5 Members)
Project Overview
During the 4th semester of my undergraduate studies, I collaborated with four peers to design and construct a mass model of a childcare centre. The project was an intensive group effort aimed at blending architectural creativity with functional design principles. It was an enriching experience that allowed us to explore innovative design ideas while maintaining a strong focus on practicality and sustainability.
Objective
The project's primary goal was to create a comprehensive model of a childcare center that caters to the needs of children, ensuring a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment. Additionally, the design aimed to seamlessly integrate the childcare center into its surroundings, creating a harmonious and welcoming space.
Design Features
Child-Friendly Design:
The childcare center was designed with safety and accessibility as top priorities. Features such as rounded edges, wide pathways, and open play areas were incorporated to ensure a secure environment for children.
Functional Zoning:
The building layout was meticulously planned, with clearly defined zones for learning, recreation, rest, and dining. Each zone was strategically placed to optimize functionality and ease of supervision.
Outdoor Spaces:
The design included expansive outdoor play areas with playground equipment, green lawns, and shaded seating for children and caregivers. Special attention was given to landscaping, ensuring a natural and stimulating environment.
Sustainability:
The project emphasized eco-friendly solutions, incorporating green building practices such as natural ventilation, rainwater harvesting, and the use of sustainable materials in the design.
Contextual Integration:
We focused on designing the childcare center to complement its surrounding environment. The layout, colors, and materials were carefully selected to ensure the building blended seamlessly with the surrounding community and natural elements.
