Dr. Abdul Malek is a chemist working at the energy–water–environment nexus, with expertise in sustainable hydrogen production technologies, fluorescence sensing of toxic metal ions, and their removal and detoxification. His work is inherently interdisciplinary, bridging materials science, electrochemistry, environmental engineering, and energy systems. He designs earth-abundant electrocatalysts and functional nanomaterials and translates them into scalable electrochemical reactors, with demonstrated leadership in kilowatt-scale anion exchange membrane (AEM) and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers. His research bridges molecular-level understanding with device- and system-level implementation, forming the foundation of a research group focused on deployable technologies for water quality improvement and low-carbon energy conversion.
