Privacy Policy
Last Updated: 18/06/2026
This Privacy Policy explains what data Glance collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Glance is a macOS application that helps you understand and act on what's on your screen using AI.
We have designed Glance to handle as little of your data as possible. This policy describes exactly what happens.
Short Version
We do not require you to create an account.
We do not collect analytics, tracking, or behavioral data.
We never store your screenshots. They exist only in memory during a request.
When you press the shortcut, the captured image and recognized text from that capture are sent to OpenAI through our secure backend for that one request, then discarded.
Your conversation history is stored only on your Mac, not on our servers.
Payments are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details.
If you want the full detail, read on.
1. What Data Glance Processes
1a. Captured Screen Content (transient)
When you press the Glance shortcut, choose a capture mode, or upload an image, the following are processed:
The image of the chosen window, screen, region, or upload.
Text recognized from the image by Apple's Vision framework, which runs entirely on your Mac and never leaves your device by itself.
Any text you type in the Glance input field (your question, follow-up, etc.).
This content is sent to our backend over an encrypted HTTPS connection, which forwards it to OpenAI in order to generate a response. We do not store the image or recognized text on our servers. It exists only long enough to handle that single request.
Glance never captures your screen "in the background." A capture only happens when you explicitly press the shortcut, choose a capture mode, or upload a file.
1b. Conversation History (on your device)
Glance saves your past conversations on your Mac so you can revisit them. This data is stored locally in your user Application Support folder and is never transmitted to us. Deleting the app removes it.
History stores: the action you used, the time, the app name that was active, and the text of each turn. It does NOT store the screenshot image itself.
1c. App Settings
Settings (your chosen hotkey, default translate language, free-tier counter, etc.) are stored in your Mac's user defaults and never transmitted to us.
1d. Subscription Status
Your subscription state is managed by Apple's StoreKit. We receive only the minimum signal needed to unlock Pro features. We do not receive your Apple ID, name, email, payment method, or billing address.
1e. App Check Tokens
To prevent abuse of our backend, the app sends an anonymous App Check token (provided by Apple's DeviceCheck system) with each request. This token cannot be used to identify you personally. It only proves that the request is coming from a real, signed copy of Glance.
2. Data We Do Not Collect
To be explicit, Glance does NOT:
Use any third-party analytics or telemetry SDKs.
Track you across apps or websites.
Collect device identifiers for advertising.
Use cookies or fingerprinting.
Sell or rent any data to anyone, ever.
3. Third-Party Processors
To deliver the service, the screen content and text you choose to send flow through these providers, each under their own privacy practices:
OpenAI (AI inference)
We send your captured image, recognized text, and typed question to OpenAI's API.
OpenAI's API terms state that data sent through the API is not used to train their models by default. We do not opt in to training on your data.

Firebase / Google Cloud (backend proxy + abuse protection)
Our backend that forwards requests to OpenAI runs on Google Cloud Functions.
App Check tokens are validated using Firebase.
These services may log request metadata (timestamps, IP, status codes) for operational and security purposes. We do not store the request bodies beyond what is needed to serve the request.

Apple (distribution, payments, OS APIs)
The Mac App Store distributes Glance.
Apple handles all payments and subscription billing.
The Screen Recording permission and the Vision framework (used for OCR) are Apple system APIs running on your device.

4. Permissions Glance Requests
Screen Recording — required for Glance to capture your active window, full screen, or a selected region. Glance only uses this when you press the shortcut or choose a capture mode. macOS will display a recording indicator any time Glance is actively capturing.
No other privacy-sensitive permissions are requested.
5. International Users
Our backend runs on Google Cloud in the United States, and OpenAI processes requests in the United States. If you use Glance from outside the U.S., your data will be transmitted internationally. By using Glance you consent to this transfer.
6. Your Rights
Because Glance does not store personal data on our servers, most data-access requests can be fulfilled entirely on your device:
View your history: open Glance → click the history icon.
Delete your history: clear it from inside the app, or delete the app to remove all stored data from your Mac.
Stop processing: stop using the app. Once you stop sending captures, no further data is processed.
If you reside in a region with stronger data rights (EEA, UK, California, etc.) and have a specific request — including a request to confirm whether we hold any data about you, or to delete operational logs that may contain your IP address — contact us at the address below and we will respond promptly.
7. Security
All communication between the app and our backend uses encrypted HTTPS.
The OpenAI API key is never stored in the app; it lives only on our backend.
Anonymous App Check tokens prevent unauthorized calls to our backend.
Conversation history is stored on your own Mac, protected by your user account.
No system is perfectly secure. If you believe you have found a security issue, please report it to the address below.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices change or when required by law. Material changes will be communicated through the app or by updating the "Last Updated" date above. Your continued use of Glance after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
9. Contact
If you have questions, requests, or concerns about this policy or about your data, contact:
