"Promuovere e insegnare l'italiano:
strumenti per docenti tra politiche e pratiche"
Saturday, February 6, 2027
La Scuola International School, San Francisco, California
Proposals are now being accepted for the second installment of AATI-CAL’s
Professional Development/Corso di aggiornamento Series 2026-2027
titled “Promuovere e insegnare l’italiano: strumenti per docenti tra politiche e pratiche.”
This event will be held at La Scuola International School in San Francisco, California on Saturday, February 6, 2027.
The event is made possible through the support of
the Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco and in Los Angeles,
and
the Italian Cultural Institutes of San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Building on the first installment held at the University of Southern California on October 24, 2026,
which focused on Italian language and program advocacy, this second giornata formativa will focus on best practices.
Under the guidance of keynote speaker Professor Matteo Santipolo (Università di Padova),
a leading expert in glottodidattica and the teaching of Italian L2/LS,
the day will provide teachers with
concrete, classroom-ready tools through an intensive, hands-on laboratory format.
Santipolo’s didattica sartoriale, known in English as Bespoke Language Teaching (BLT),
is a tailor-made approach in which instruction is cut to fit the learner:
it is built around what is useful to them, what they can actually use,
and the varieties of Italian most relevant to their needs and contexts.
Call for proposals
Our students bring different cultural and linguistic backgrounds, ages, interests, proficiency levels, learning styles,
and goals to the Italian-language classroom. How can we design instruction to respond to this multiplicity?
Within the framework of Bespoke Language Teaching, this call invites teachers, educators, and language professionals to share
practical, flexible, and creative approaches to teaching Italian across a range of educational contexts. We invite proposals for
individual presentations or hands-on workshops that offer concrete strategies, adaptable materials, and classroom activities
that participants can bring back to their own teaching contexts.
We welcome proposals addressing all levels and settings of Italian language education, including K–12, higher education, adult
education, heritage-language programs, and private instruction, whether in person, online, or hybrid.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
teaching in multilevel and multilingual classrooms;
inclusive and accessible pedagogies;
private instruction, tutoring, and individualized learning plans;
flexible materials design and curriculum development;
technology and AI-supported personalized learning;
formative assessment and individualized feedback;
teaching grammar, conversation, writing, literature, film, and culture;
project-based learning and student-centered approaches;
supporting heritage learners and learners with diverse linguistic profiles;
teaching Italian in community-based, nontraditional, or informal settings.
