AATI-CAL is dedicated to supporting and advancing the teaching of the Italian language and culture throughout California. We promote excellence in Italian education by providing professional development opportunities, fostering collaboration among educators, advocating for Italian programs at all levels, and strengthening connections between schools, universities, and cultural institutions.
The purpose of the Chapter shall be to support and further the mission of AATI National in promoting, and advancing the teaching of the language, literatures, and cultures of Italian-speaking countries and geo-cultural areas, and to serve the interests of teachers of Italian on all levels in the State of California, especially through publication of the Chapter Newsletter, and its official Chapter Website and Social Media; the organization and sponsorship of conferences, professional events and workshops; the encouragement and support of teaching and research in the fields of Italian Language and Studies; informing the general public of its activities; and the collaboration with other professional organizations.
EXECUTIVE BOARD
The President is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and execution of the Chapter’s activities during their term. Beyond administrative duties, the President plays a strategic role in guiding all facets of the association toward clear objectives, monitoring progress toward goals, and offering support where needed to ensure success across initiatives. The President ensures that the Chapter reflects the diverse voices of the Italian teaching community, maintaining a balance of representation between northern and southern California, K–12, college and university and developing sectors, other and current and future teachers.
The Vice President advocates for the advancement of Italian language, culture, and studies by safeguarding and promoting Italian programs across the state through networking and building relationships for Colleges and Universities. They coordinate their respective Regional County Cluster Representatives to ensure that there is active contact within the region and that the concerns and needs of the region are being addressed.

The Secretary keeps an accurate record of the proceedings of meetings of the Chapter and of the Executive Council by taking and archiving minutes. The secretary maintains the Chapter’s official records, including governing documents, and archives of activities and events. The Secretary also assists the Election Committee in the administration of Chapter elections and the maintenance of accurate records of officers and terms of service.
The Treasurer receives and disburses all monies on behalf of the Chapter, and keeps an accurate record thereof. The Treasurer reports on the membership and finances of the Chapter at the Annual Meeting. The Treasurer also prepares any necessary tax forms and an annual financial report that is published in the Chapter Newsletter and/or on the official Chapter Website.
The Director of Communication coordinates planning and scheduling of the Executive Council and Chapter meetings and facilitates, tallies and reports the voting of the Executive Council. The Director of Communication coordinates communication and ensures consistent messaging and branding across all Chapter communications. The Director of Communication creates, maintains, and regularly updates the Chapter's website and social media.
