Marching Jamboree

Saturday, September 9th, 2023

The Stagg Marching Jamboree is the first of three major fundraisers held by the Stagg Music Boosters. Held every September, the Jamboree showcases the finest area high school marching bands performing their competitive marching arrangements. Though it is a performance venue for marching bands, the money raised through the Jamboree benefits the entire Stagg music program: from band to choir to guard!

Adult Volunteer Job Descriptions

We are in need of many parents and student volunteers to help this run smoothly and successfully. The event is scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM and run to approximately 10:00 PM. However, we will need volunteers to help with setup and cleanup, so you can begin as early as noon or stay as late as midnight.

Any amount of time you can spare would be greatly appreciated. There are tasks that require minimal physical effort and can be performed seated as well. There is something for everyone!!

Please review the list of duties below and then click the button to select a duty and a time frame! For convenience, each duty is listed in 2-hour increments. If you can volunteer more time, please do so! You can select any duty in any time frame, and mix and match as you please! We need all the help we can get, and everybody benefits from you time.

(Student volunteers can sign up for community service hours by adding their contact information to the sign-up forms posted outside the band and choir rooms.)

Contact Lisa Banos-Cruz if you have any questions.

Volunteer Duties

Below are the duties the Jamboree typically requires. Note that except for parking, all of these positions are supported by student volunteers. (Lots of them!)

Guest Services

Concierge - Provide guidance to attendees as necessary; check-in volunteers; act as Jamboree “home base.”

Ticket Booth Attendant - Sell tickets and programs to incoming attendees.

Air Grams Attendant - Take air gram orders. Air Grams are short announcements that are read over the loud speaker prior to a band's performance. Spectators pay $1 per announcement. The attendant will accept the payment, review the announcement for appropriateness and send it with a student volunteer up to the press box to be read.

Nurse - Scrapes, bruises, etc. This role requires a registered nurse. Requires at least 1 volunteer.

Bleacher Assistant (Home & Visitor) - Provide seating assistance to attendees; ensure that everyone entering stands has a wristband or hand mark; prevent spectators from entering stands while bands are performing.

Band Services

Band Check-in Attendant - Check the bands in as they arrive, give them schedules, wrist bands, and practice instructions.

Band/Pit Guide - Greet the bands/pit at the East lot. Walk them to their warm-up locations. Let the director know when there is 2, 5, & 10 minutes left of warm-up and when it is time to go. Walk the band down the East drive to the stadium. Watch them perform and walk them back to their busses.

Concessions

Note: Students are not allowed to handle money. They cannot take orders or give change, and cannot be in concessions areas without adult supervision.

Concession Attendant - Set up/clean up concessions building. Take food orders, accept money and provide change, serve food at main concession stand. Recommend 6 volunteers.

Parking

Note: Students are NOT allowed to perform parking duties.

Band Bus Guide - Guide buses and equipment trucks to appropriate locations in the parking lot.

West Lot Entrance Attendant - Provide guidance to attendees as to where to park; do not allow attendees to park in Sacred Heart Church lot until after 6:00 PM.

West Lot South/Handicap Gate Attendant - Ensure that gate is closed to attendees; provide access to people with handicap placards, band staff, and judges.

Back Field Attendant - Holds the upcoming band at the back field gate (allowing the pit to lineup on the back track) until 5 minutes before their performance time.

Clean-up

Adults

Near the end of the shift, begin supervising the students with regard to the clean-up in your area.

You've reviewed the list of duties, now click the button to select a duty and a time frame! For convenience, each duty is listed in 2-hour increments. If you can volunteer more time, please do so! You can select any duty in any time frame, and mix and match as you please! We need all the help we can get, and everybody benefits from your time.

Contact Lisa Banos-Cruz  if you have any questions.

Supplies Needed!

We are asking that each family donate a beverage to be sold at our Concession Stand based on the FIRST Letter of the student's LAST name.

For ease of planning, please bring donations to your Music Directors at your earliest convenience, labeled with your child's name.

We are also in need of several canopy tents to be used as stations at the Jamboree. If you have one to spare for the duration of the Jamboree, please bring it to the football field parking entrance around noon on the day of the Jamboree!

Working together, it will be a beautiful event for everyone involved. Thanks for your help in making our programs the best they can be for our students!!
