Design Projects

Examples of MYP Units

The examples below are of some MYP Units.

Advocate Project

In this project students researched a global problem, designed a symbol for to raise awareness of the problem in Adobe Illustrator, laser cut the symbol in MDF to create a pewter mould, cast pewter in the mould and used colored epoxy resin to for coloring.

Cam in Motion

The cam in motion unit involved students design hand cranked cam toys that demonstrated how a simple machine can change the direction of a force from a rotation to a straight line motion. Students designed, laser cut, assembled and painted their toys.

Build a box

Students designed, iterated and then built a box using the 2D CAD software Adobe Illustrator. They then laser cut, assembled and added finishing touches to their boxes.

Arduino Projects

Students learned to code an Arduino to create a product that involved adjusting an input (digital/analog) to create light or sound output. A housing was designed and build and electronic components assembled.

Build a Toy

Students designed and 3D printed toys using 3D CAD software (either Autodesk's Tinkercad or Fusion 360). The students then painted their models.

Scratch Games

Students coded games using MIT's Scratch program. A Makey-Makey was used to control the game and LittleBits were used to accent the game surround.
