Social Justice / Community Organizing

  • Audrey Lorde Project (ALP) - The Audre Lorde Project is a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans and Gender Non Conforming People of Color center for community organizing, focusing on the New York City area. Through mobilization, education and capacity-building, we work for community wellness and progressive social and economic justice. Committed to struggling across differences, we seek to responsibly reflect, represent and serve our various communities.
  • Caribbean Equality Project - The Caribbean Equality Project’s mission is to promote social change, awareness, and acceptance by empowering and strengthening the voices of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people of Caribbean descent in the New York area. We are dedicated to creating a sustainable and progressive community free of violence and all forms of discrimination and oppression by: promoting visibility and empowerment through advocacy, community organizing, public education, cultural and social programming. Our advocacy efforts are directed towards: cultivating community partnerships, greater family acceptance and creating a society based on respect, inclusion and equality, regardless of an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity within the Caribbean diaspora.
  • Caribbean American Pride - We are a group of liked minded Caribbean-American folks whose prime interests are in HIV/AIDS education for our young people; and seeking to change the Immigration Laws allowing LGBT spouses to sponsor their non-resident spouses to reside and work legally in the United States.
  • FIERCE - FIERCE is a membership-based organization building the leadership and power of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) youth of color in New York City. We develop politically conscious leaders who are invested in improving ourselves and our communities through youth-led campaigns, leadership development programs, and cultural expression through arts and media. FIERCE is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of social justice movement leaders who are dedicated to ending all forms of oppression.
  • Lambda Legal - Founded in 1973, Lambda Legal is the oldest and largest national legal organization whose mission is to achieve full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and everyone living with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, we do not charge our clients for legal representation or advocacy, and we receive no government funding. We depend on contributions from supporters around the country.
  • National Black Justice Coalition - The National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC) is a civil rights organization dedicated to the empowerment of Black lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and same gender loving (LGBTQ/SGL) people, including people living with HIV/AIDS. NBJC’s mission is to end racism, homophobia, and LGBTQ/SGL bias and stigma. As America’s leading national Black LGBTQ/SGL civil rights organization focused on federal public policy, NBJC has accepted the charge to lead Black families in strengthening the bonds and bridging the gaps between the movements for racial justice and LGBTQ/SGL equality.
  • Project Reach - Project Reach creates opportunities for youth - and adults who work with them - to incubate new approaches and strategies and to build institutions that address discrimination and injustice and place social control in their own hands. Organizing readiness, youth organizing, and community empowerment are the products of these opportunities.
  • SAGE Harlem - SAGE is the country's largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) older adults. Our mission is to lead in addressing issues related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) aging.
  • SALGA NYC - Our mission is to enable community members to establish cultural visibility and take a stand against oppression and discrimination in all its forms.. We pledge to encourage leadership development, provide multi-generational support, work towards immigration advocacy, address mental health and health issues such as HIV / AIDS, and foster political involvement in the interest of creating a more empowered society.
  • The Trevor Project - Founded in 1998 by the creators of the Academy Award®-winning short film TREVOR, The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25.
  • Women in the Life - A social justice organization advancing the rights of lesbians and queer women of color through cultural affirmation, education and advocacy.
  • ZAMI NOBLA - National Organization of Black Lesbians on Aging, a service, advocacy and research organization was incorporated in Atlanta, Georgia in October 2011, when its founder Mary Anne Adams noticed that older black lesbians were disappearing from community-based activities and organizations. The organization aims to empower black lesbians over 40 through community based programming, leadership development, education, and participatory research.
  • Zuna Institute - Zuna Instititue is a National Advocacy Organization for Black Lesbians that was created to address the needs of black lesbians in the areas of Health, Public Policy, Economic Development, and Education.
