Flagstaff is a vibrant town with excellent food and breathtaking scenery that has much to offer to visitors. AACL2020 participants can explore these little wonders and attractions during the weekend of the conference:
Flagstaff is known as a tourist destination because of its proximity to the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Antelope Canyon and Sedona. The Flagstaff Visitor’s Center website contains extensive information about local and regional destinations.
SEDONA
Sedona is a 45-minute drive from Flagstaff and offers hiking among the red rocks, creative creek-side restaurants, and a renowned artist community.
THE GRAND CANYON
The Grand Canyon is one of the world’s natural wonders. It is a 90-minute drive from Flagstaff and offers a stunning view of geology, nature, and native cultures.
MONUMENT VALLEY
Monument Valley is well known for its impressive rock formations, spires, and folklore. It is about a 3-hour drive from Flagstaff.
WALNUT CANYON
Walnut Canyon is a National Monument easily reached from Flagstaff, being just 7 miles east along I-40 and another 3 miles south on a spur road starting at exit 204. It features well preserved cave dwellings of the 12th century Sinagua Indians.
WUPATKI NATIONAL MONUMENT
The Wupatki National Monument is a United States National Monument located near Flagstaff. The dwelling was home to up to 100 people when Wupatki was as a cultural center.
SUNSET CRATER
Sunset Crater is a cinder cone located north of Flagstaff in U.S. State of Arizona. Sunset Crater is the youngest in a string of volcanoes that is related to the nearby San Francisco Peaks.
