Data Files
The data files below are presented in the form spreadsheets constructed by the author for use in developing content for Vol. 16, No. 2 of the American Association Almanac (print only) which covers the American Association playoffs from 1953 to 1957 (1933 through 1952 were published previously). Notice the use of color in developing each spreadsheet. This is helpful for maintaining a sense of organization as well as for aesthetic presentation.

Each of the five seasons included in Vol. 16, No. 2 contains a data base for the categories of 1) Batting; 2) Pitching; 3) Fielding; 4) Games by Inning; and 5) Games by Score. Both files for Batting and Pitching are arranged into sub-files for batters and pitchers (by team). The spreadsheets below are presented in their entirety in order to provide examples of the tools of the trade. They illustrate the requirements of those doing research in areas other than the major league where virtually every stat can be accessed. The time requirement for the first example, "Batting," is roughly one week at five hours per day; it takes the longest to complete but it is foundational for the pitching and fielding files.

There are occasions when there is missing or conflicting data in the box scores. When this happens, multiple examples from different sources are compared and a "best conclusion" is drawn based on the evidence. In most cases, the local box score's data prevails, e.g., the local source for the Minneapolis Millers was the Minneapolis Tribune (among others).

This spreadsheet was used in the development of Vol. 16, No. 2 of the American Association Almanac; a spreadsheet identical to this one was constructed for each of the season from 1933 to 1962 in order to organize the entire set of data for the American Association playoff (excluding 1935 when there was no playoff).
