At the Bayala Community, a Zulu village in South Africa we learned more about the habits, customs and traditions of the local Zulu community. We also saw a dance show telling the story of a young Zulu warrior and a young Zulu woman who fell in love with each other. The young woman however played being hard to get, so the young warrior had to prove himself being worthy to her. She also made him clear that she did not wanted to be condemned to the pots and pans but wanted to have a more emancipated role in their relationship. How wise and modern of this young woman!

As soon as the man receives this kind of necklace, he will go home to hang up a white handkerchief as a symbol showing that he is in love. The girl does not give it to the man herself, this is all done via the older sister (iqhikiza).

The second love letter will have more red beads and a few other colours to communicate her desire to her boyfriend and

the boy will by that time take down the white

handkerchief and replace it with a red one. The ucu can be worn by both young men and women whose relationship has become known and

generally accepted within their peer group.

This song is about educating society on beauty standards, especially colorism. Colorism affects the black community profusely due to its roots, which spawn from the history of slavery in America. In the song, Kendrick details the importance of loving all people no matter how light or dark.

A very fascinating story unfolded during the nineteenth century around the same time that Cetshwayo KaMpande was consolidating his power and positioning himself as the heir to the Zulu throne. Isilo uMpande kaSenzangakhona was undecided as to whom he would designate as the future ingonyama of the Zulu people for reasons only known to him. It is said that he at times was in open support of Mbuyazwe, a son of his born of one of his favourite wives Monase. It then happened that a big clash took place between the princes Cetshwayo and Mbuyazwe on the banks of the Thukela river close to a homestead known as Ndondakusuka.

At about that time she had taken an interest in a Zulu man named Sifile who decided to marry her as soon as he could. The two were madly in love and in spite of the protests of Mr and Mrs Walmsley, Nomanzi agreed to being a Zulu wife in the homestead of Sifile and in consequence left the so called luxury and sophistication of European life.

A beautiful love story indeed and one that happened in the historical background of nineteenth century Zululand also showing that not all was sour between the Zulu people and their neighbours the British but also proving that not every Zulu hankered after the life lived by the Europeans as is often written on colonial historical accounts.

Thandeka, a young Black journalist, lives in fear of Johannesburg's past. She's so troubled that she can't work, and her relationship with her 13-year-old deaf daughter Mangi goes from bad to worse. One day Me'Tau, an elderly woman, arrives at the newspaper's office. Ten years earlier, Thandeka witnessed the murder of Me'Tau's daughter Dino by the secret police. Me'Tau wants Thandeka to find the murderers and Dino's body so that the girl can be buried in accordance with tradition. What Me'Tau couldn't know is that Thandeka has already paid for her knowledge, for having dared stand up to the apartheid system run by the whites. Meanwhile, Mangi secretly prepares a Zulu love letter: four embroidered images representing solitude, loss, hope, and love, as a final gesture towards her mother so that she won't give up the fight. The events take place during the TRC.

Zulu Love Letter emphasizes the need of protecting and honoring ancient African artistic genres like the beaded "Zulu love letters." Director Ramadan Suleman stressed the relevance of African ancestry in the broader framework of South African history and identity by infusing these cultural components throughout the movie.

Zulu love letter also addresses emotional significance faced by the nation in the after math of the apartheid. The film's legacy contributes to post apartheid narratives with representation of strong female characters who are trying to preserve the Zulu culture by demonstrating issues of guilt, trauma and reconciliation. The film helped light a path that was deeper in the understanding of South Africa's story towards healing and having national unity.

Zulu love letter premiered on September, 08, 2004 in the Venice Film Festival where it was given a nomination for the best film award. It was released in South Africa on August 5, 2005 and in France to domestic audiences on April 19, 2006.[9]

A screeching, fast-paced opener introduces Thandeka (Marimbe) as a woman left for dead in a parking garage. The film is murky in its explanations, and forces viewers to piece the backstory together; apparently, though, this is a scene from the past after Thandeka was released by the secret police during the apartheid regime, jailed for having witnessed the murder a young girl, Dineo. Her unborn child, Mangi, was born deaf and dumb from the beatings Thandeka received in prison.

From this point on, pic spins into a fairly engrossing thriller, even though not all plot points are crystal clear and editing could have been tighter. Suleman obviously has a lot to say about recent history and the way memories and guilt over apartheid are being repressed in a lacerated country still mourning its dead. The thriller package helps him get his ideas across, but film is slowed down by the psychological complexity of the background situations, including a subplot about the difficult relationship between Thandeka and Mangi.

Hastily they buried his body in a grain-pit nearby. Having died without an heir, Dingane succeeded him, but Shaka's prophecy haunted him and ever after that, he was wary of white people. Under Shaka's successors, Dingane, Mpande, and Cetshwayo the Zulu monarchy profoundly influenced the course of South African history.

Being a widow at that age is complicated, she found out; she still had a whole life ahead of her, but she also felt like she had lost a great deal of her life. She was required to grieve properly, to honour his name. Society also expected her not to move on too fast. What was a safe time to have coffee with another man without raising eyebrows? When was a good time to fall in love and get married again? How long should you honour your dead spouse before you start thinking about yourself and what you want?

Sad that it took an accident for the man to slow down and get more involved with his family. I am happy she has found love again. Hope she will be able to leave her past behind her and give love a second try.

Very sad indeed. How can you lose the one you love at that precise moment when the love has been renewed? how do you even continue breathing after such a loss? May she truly find happiness and love again.

my take home today is that even in the middle of challenges and depression, true love will always triumph, will always win. There is no need for separation or divorce when you go through challenges, hang on there, because love can resurface again, can be renewed.

I feel obliged to thank you for the beautiful and surreal stories you bring to the comfort of our safe spaces. As a young adult, I have seen the world in a kinder light and seen my peers do the same effortlessly. These stories i love especially because they remove the veil of ignorance from my youthful face and the world seems Less owed.

What is it with women? Why do you have to fall in and out of Love this often. I thought love was sacred, and that if you fall for me, you will fall for me even after I am gone. Do other men feel the same? Or is my level of sanity very Low?

Damn, what a sad sad story. I had to pause, fight back tears the moment he died. Death is cruel. My father died in similar circumstances at home. That pain of losing a loved one never ever goes away. Nobody can ever replace those who we lose.
