Creating this website has been an incredible journey through the rich history of Byzantine Constantinople. From the towering walls that defended the city to the bustling markets that connected it to the world, each landmark tells a story of resilience, culture, and power. Exploring the Hagia Sophia’s architectural grandeur, the political intrigue of the imperial palace, and the spectacle of the Hippodrome has deepened my appreciation for the city’s enduring legacy.
This project was completed as part of my HIS101 ( history class ) under Professor Wendy Zirngibl, and it has given me a newfound respect for the complexities of the Byzantine world. While history has never been my favorite subject, researching Constantinople has shown me how deeply the past shapes our present. Thank you for joining me on this journey—I hope this website has made the history of this remarkable city as engaging and fascinating for you as it has become for me.
