Biography: Dr. Giri did his PhD from Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. He completed his B.Sc. in Chemistry from University of Calcutta (Ashutosh College). Then moved to Raja Bazar Science college (under University of Calcutta) and completed both B.Tech. and M.Tech. in 2007 and 2009, respectively. Dr. Giri's home town is Kakdwip (near to Ganga Sagar), South 24 parganas, which is about 60 Km away from the Kolkata. As a part of his Doctoral work, he studied advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) that are highly efficient novel methods to accelerate oxidation and degradation of different drug molecules from water. AOPs were used as highly reactive oxygen species (ROS) production methods to chemically degrade or mineralize the pollutant molecules. He established a novel development of proposed mechanistic pathways to identify and quantify the different fragments molecules produced on degradation of varieties of drugs present in aquatic environment in presence of homogeneous AOPs. Investigations on the influence of foreign anions to understand drug mineralization when treating the mixture were also the part of his research works. Presently, he is working on the synthesis and development of different Chemosensors and polymeric biosensors in the fields of green H2 production through photoelectrochemical processes and to detect heavy metal ions from aquatic environment.
Research Interest: He is presently working on Catalysis and Environment, Electrochemistry, Advanced oxidation processes, Polymeric Nanocomposites, Nanomaterials, Chemosensors, Chelation Technology, Water Purification. Moreover, he is also developing plasmonic nanomaterial modified electrodes in the domain of energy (H2) production which could be used to solve the future energy problems. His research mainly focuses on development of electrochemical cells for drug contaminated water splitting for harvesting energy along with the water purification.
