Oh no. Not my alarm! I turned over to my phone and turned off my high-pitched alarm that I dread hearing every morning. I looked at the date and a smile flooded my face. It's my fifteenth birthday! I hopped out of bed and went to put on my favorite outfit. Nothing was gonna top me from having a bad day. Especially not these peculiar things that have been happening to me recently.
For instance the other day when I was taking a walk with my friends, bugs and animals seemed to have followed us everywhere. At first I thought it must be because we smelled like food or something, but I'm not too sure.
Then I could have sworn I was hearing voices from outside my window at night, but it wasn't human voices. They were almost like low pitched whispers. I think that has to do more with my obsession with watching Criminal Minds late at night before I go to sleep.
Once I got dressed I headed down stairs where my mom and dad were waiting for me. They usually take me to school and head off to the hospital where they work.
"Hi honey! Happy tenth birthday?" my dad asked me once I got to the kitchen.
"No dad! You know it's my fifteenth birthday," I joked with my dad.
"Sugar, we are so lucky we have you. I remember like it was just yesterday when we had you," my mom said as she started to tear up.
Oh great here come the waterworks. I quickly suggested we load up the car or else I was gonna be late for school. When they dropped me off, I ran straight inside to see my friends. My friends advised me to keep my lunch open.
When lunch time rolled around, my friends texted me to meet them outside. They set up a picnic and had cake for me. I got so happy and then something happened. The grass around my picnic started to turn more green and flowers started appearing, but only surrounding us in a circle. I couldn't believe my eyes at first, but it's kinda hard to miss daisies popping up everywhere. When I asked my friends if they saw it, all of them seemed to agree that the flowers had been there. Maybe I was going crazy.
The lunch bell had gone off to signal the beginning of the afternoon classes. I packed up the beautiful picnic and started to go inside. As I was going in a bunny was leaping next to me. Usually when I saw bunnies they ran away, but this bunny seemed to really like me.
I went to my next class and sat in my seat. The final bell went off which meant I was not late. My teacher walked in moments after that and shut the door. He started to teach the lesson until we got interrupted. There was scratching on the door as well as just noise coming down the hall. When my teacher went to answer it, there were animals filling the hallways. There were bunnies, birds, squirrels, turtles, and even dogs. How did they even get in the school?
Author's Note: I wrote this little segment of my saga on the same day as my last story, Flora and Hayley's birthday. I thought it would be cool to change perspectives back and forth as a challenge to myself. I was doing research and fairies are generally described to look like humans, but also have powers. I didn't want Hayley to look like an outcast. The only way I wanted her to feel out of place was her abilities. Hayley has no knowledge of her background, but she does have a hunch that she's special. Since Hayley's name was supposed to be Flora, I wanted to give her powers of nature and plants as I thought it was fitting. Since she is young and just "developing" her powers, she doesn't know how to control them. Her power is great even if she doesn't know how to control them. This should be definitely demonstrated by the animals filling the hallways of her school. I also put touches of fairy folklore in there with things appearing in a circle or ring. The difference between the folklore I used and the story was that usually fairy rings was traditionally associated with disease. I however wanted it to tie in with Hayley's powers with plants and life.
