Directed by Ron Howard and written by Akiva Goldsman, A Beautiful Mind was inspired by a biography written by Sylvia Nasar. The biography details the life of John Forbes Nash Jr., a prominent mathematician, known for his Nash equilibrium theory. The film was released on 21 December 2001 in the United States. At the time, the film received favorable reviews from critics, and Russell Crowe, the main actor, received wide acclaim for his performance.

A Beautiful Mind received an Oscar at the 74^th Academy Awards in 2002 for Best Picture. Ron Howard, the director of the movie, received Best Director award while Jennifer Connelly, who plays Alicia Nash, John Nash’s wife, received Best Supporting Actress award at the ceremony.
