Purpose of the Game

Library Adventure is a path game designed to teach first year undergraduate students at Carleton University about the benefits of using the library and what services are available in the library. The game is modeled after The Game of Life.

Many undergraduate students (and graduate students) do not know what services the library offers. This is a huge problem on our campus. There are so many services that our library offers that students do not know we offer. In many cases, the student would use the service if they knew that it existed. This game looks to teach students about the various services that the library offers in a fun way. The game would generate discussion amongst library staff and students about what services are available and where they can go to access these services.

Incentive

This game would be played by students during a library orientation session and would be set up the week before classes begin/during orientation week in the main foyer of the library. Although the main goal is to teach students about the various benefits of using the library and to teach students what services are available in the library, the winner of the game would be awarded various Carleton University “goodies” including starbucks gift cards, bookstore gift cards, and library swag to encourage students to play the game.
