A: Yes, this is to ensure each candidate is able to remedy any packet or packing list deficiencies and remain in the course
Q: DOES SAID SPONSOR NEED TO BE A COMPANY COMMANDER?
A: No, SURT does not require Company Command teams to serve as sponsors. We ask sponsors to be at least a Squad Leader or equivalent with prior knowledge of SURT and the candidate they are sponsoring. Any discrepancies with a student's packet will be on the sponsor to remedy in the provided timeline to ensure the student remains in the course. Company Command teams will be contacted for packet issues and BN Command teams will be contacted for all drops.
Q: WHAT IS THE HAIR GROOMING STANDARD FOR STUDENTS?
A: Males and females are no longer required to arrive with head shaved. The day before graduating SURT males will have head shaved, and females will have hair no longer than 1 inch.
Q: WHAT ARE THE S.U.R.T. COURSE STANDARDS?

BIG 5 Candidate Policy: The purpose of the Big 5 program is two-fold: (1) Afford time constrained leaders the opportunity to attend Ranger School, and (2) afford S.U.R.T. course graduates an opportunity or additional opportunity to attend Ranger School given extenuating circumstances. The "Big 5" Events are as follows: RPFA (Ranger Physical Fitness Assessment), CWST (Combat Water Survival Test), RTTs (Ranger Tasks Training), Land Navigation, and 12 Mile Foot March. All Big 5 events take place during the first week of every S.U.R.T. class. Officers in the rank of O3 and above and enlisted in the rank of E7 and above are eligible for BIG 5 candidacy. Additionally, S.U.R.T. course graduates, rank immaterial, are eligible for Big 5 candidacy for six months after date of graduation.

Students will then bring the "S.U.R.T. PACKING LIST" items verified by S.U.R.T. cadre to Ranger School upon completion of S.U.R.T.
WE REQUEST STUDENTS BRING THEIR CELL PHONE TO S.U.R.T. IN ORDER TO FACILITATE COMMUNICATION WITH THEIR UNITS IN THE EVENT OF RELIEF OR OTHER EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES
The purpose of maintaining specific packing list is two-fold: (1) Ensuring all students have the required items for execution of the S.U.R.T. course, and (2) ensuring students do not unnecessarily purchase equipment items for S.U.R.T.

Additional Packing List Notes:
The following LINs are provided by ARTB via MFR. It is NOT NECESSARY for students to purchase the following items out of pocket: Overshoes Vinyl (LIN# N39848), Mitten Shells Cold Weather (LIN# M53240), and Mitten Inserts Cold Weather (LIN# M52555), Rucksack Large Field Pack MOLLE (LIN# DA654J) and all supporting LINs (ITEMS 1-7)
Students are authorized use of the MOLLE 4K Ruck Sack during the S.U.R.T. course. Currently, FLNC CIF does not support issue of Rucksack Large Field Pack MOLLE for purposes of Ranger School attendance.
