Culturally Embedded Lessons for ELA, Social Studies, Science, and Math Alaska Standards
Students use ratios, unit rates, and percent change to see how the 1867 transfer changed daily economic life for four groups in Sitka: a Russian/Creole worker, a Tlingit clan house that sold food, a Tlingit fur trader, and an American saloon owner. The math shows students that the transfer brought gains for some groups and losses for others.
