7th grade place-based lesson
In 7th grade, students bring several years of Alaska Day learning to this lesson. They've explored belonging and place, Lingít presence before colonization, the Lingít, Russian, and American perspectives, and, in 6th grade, who is and isn't represented in Sitka's parade today. This lesson adds a new lens: economics. Students use proportional reasoning, a core 7th grade math skill, to measure how the transfer changed livelihoods for different groups in Sitka.
