There are spiritual restrains which are designed to restrain spiritual beings such as demons and spiritual beings such as deceased humans who live in the place of torment. There exists spiritual chains and spiritual chasms and the spiritual abyss which are created to restrain spirit beings.

2 Peter 2:4 (NIV2011)

⁴ For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment;

There is a special class of fallen angels which once had access to humans on earth and these demonic beings were able to impregnant human women and their offspring become giants (offspring of fallen angels). These giants become tyrants and bullies and oppressors who occupied the Promised Land in the time of Joshua. Some of these creatures were still alive in the time of David (whose men killed these remaining giants).

Genesis 6:1-2 (NASB)

¹ Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them,

² that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.

These demons were called sons of God because they were created spiritual beings which fell and later became demons or fallen angels.

Revelation 12:4 (NIV2011)

⁴ Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born.

Satan was once a cherub in heaven who was in charge of heavenly music and worship. Under his command he had one-third of the heavenly angels. When he was lifted up in pride he was cast out of heaven and the one-third population of angels under his command were cast down to the earth together with Satan.

⁷ And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war,

⁸ and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven.

⁹ And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

Michael the archangel and the angels under his command engaged in spiritual warfare in heaven with Satan and the angels under his command. Satan and his angels were cast out of heaven and the one-third population of fallen angels under the command of Satan become demons on the earth. It is these demons who operate under the rule of Satan and they work to tempt humans to sin and deceive humans into perdition and hell.

Ezekiel 28:13-15 (NKJV)

¹³ You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created.

¹⁴ "You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones.

¹⁵ You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you.

Satan is a spirit being and thus he is eternal and cannot die. Satan was present in the garden of Eden when he deceived Eve and he is still present on earth today over 6,000-years later. Before Lucifer fell (and become Satan) he was in charge of worship in heaven. He was a creature of great beauty and splendor and he had timbrels and pipes (musical instruments) created within him. He was a living musical instrument for praise and worship in heaven. But because of his great splendor he was lifted in self-exaltation and was cast out of heaven because of his great sin of pride.

¹⁸ And He said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.

Jesus was present in heaven during the expulsion of Satan from heaven and he witnessed Satan fall like lighting from heaven.

Isaiah 14:12-15 (NASB)

¹² "How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, You who have weakened the nations!

¹³ "But you said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north.

¹⁴ 'I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.'

¹⁵ "Nevertheless you will be thrust down to Sheol, To the recesses of the pit.

Satan was once called Lucifer or Star of the Morning. This is because he had greater splendor than any other angels in heaven. When the sun comes up on earth, the light of the stars all fade away and the last star left visible is the day star or star of the morning which is the last to fade from sight by the greater illumination of the sun rising in the morning. Also, a Hollywood movie celebrity is often called a “Star” and it is like this with Lucifer in heaven who was a “star” or a being of greater exaltation than other angels. When this bright star was cast out of heaven, he appeared like a flaming falling meteor or a streak of lighting. This is why Jesus said he saw Satan fall from heaven like a streak of lightning!

Satan become so exalted in his own mind that he even sought to become like the Most High God himself! But he was cast out of heaven like a streak of lighting falling to the earth where he became the devil who rules over the one-third population of fallen angels called demons on the earth.

2 Corinthians 11:14 (NKJV)

¹⁴ And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.

Satan is also referred to as an angel of light and so it is no wonder, he appeared like a streak of lighting falling to the earth when he was expelled from heaven by Michael the archangel.

Of these one-third company of angels under the command of Satan, there was some of demons who were capable of having sexual relations with human women and were able to sire offspring with women which were half-demon and half-human. These demonic offspring were men of great size and existed to intimidate God’s people from entering the Promised Land. Satan populated the Promised Land with giants prior to the time of Exodus for the express purpose of resisting God’s people from entering the Promised Land.

⁴ There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

⁵ Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

It is nonsense to assume the sons of God are humans because humans cannot produce giants of the proportion that both Joshua and David had confronted. These perverse monstrosities were products of a special class of angels able to impregnant human women.

It is these special class of fallen angels who are now reserved in darkness in spiritual chains for judgment.

Not all demons are restrained because there is still a great deal of demonic activity on the earth so it is evident that not all demons have been restrained. It is only this specific class of demons that were restrained who were capable of impregnating human women and siring giants (creatures that were half-human and half-demonic).

Numbers 13:31-33 (NIV2011)

³¹ But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.”

³² And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size.

³³ We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”

It was these giant races that intimidated the children of Israel causing them to faint at the sight of them saying that they seemed like grasshoppers in comparison to the enormous size of these giant race monstrosities.

Joshua 11:21-22 (NASB)

²¹ Then Joshua came at that time and cut off the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab and from all the hill country of Judah and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.

²² There were no Anakim left in the land of the sons of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod some remained.

Another name from these giants were the Anakim. In the time of Joshua these giants lived in the area of Hebron but Joshua destroyed them leaving only a few remaining giants in the cities of Gaza and in Gath and Ashdod. These remaining giants were the ones who resisted David and his men but were finally exterminated and eliminated from the land completely during the time of David.

The types of demons who sired giants seem to have been placed under restraint around the time of David because after David and his men killed the remaining giants there seems to have been no more giants born to resist God’s people from that time forward.

1 Samuel 17:4-7 (NLT2)

⁴ Then Goliath, a Philistine champion from Gath, came out of the Philistine ranks to face the forces of Israel. He was over nine feet tall!

⁵ He wore a bronze helmet, and his bronze coat of mail weighed 125 pounds.

⁶ He also wore bronze leg armor, and he carried a bronze javelin on his shoulder.

⁷ The shaft of his spear was as heavy and thick as a weaver’s beam, tipped with an iron spearhead that weighed 15 pounds. His armor bearer walked ahead of him carrying a shield.

The first giant that David killed had a height that was over nine feet tall and who wore a coat of mail that weighed 125 lbs. and whose iron spearhead weighed 15 pounds! This was not just a large human like a basketball player or someone who is tall but weak. This was a giant and the offspring of a demon and a human woman and his body must have been of great size and huge muscle mass and large proportions. These giants must have possessed arms and legs of great size and strength to wear heavy armor and employ heavy weapons (which normal men could not easily use or even pickup).

It is evident from this scripture that God has created spiritual restraints which are capable of restraining spirit beings. Normal chains made of natural steel or iron cannot restrain a spirit being like a demon but God created spiritual restraining chains which can restrain spirit beings like demons.

Revelation 20:1-3 (NASB)

¹ Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand.

² And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;

³ and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.

In the coming future, Satan will be bound with a spiritual chain and he will be shut into the abyss and restrained from deceiving humans on the earth for 1,000-years.

It is evident that there are spiritual restrains that can restrain spiritual entities like demons.

Luke 16:26 (NASB)

²⁶ 'And besides all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed, so that those who wish to come over from here to you will not be able, and that none may cross over from there to us.'

In the same way, there is a great chasm fixed in the center of the earth and this chasm restrains spiritual beings from crossing over from one side to the other. Humans are also spirit beings and when their natural human bodies die on earth their human spirits will live forever (either in the place of torment or in a place of comfort). But these spirit beings are restrained by spiritual apparatus like a chasm that they cannot move freely from one side to the other.

There are spiritual restrains like chains and chasms and the spiritual abyss where spiritual beings like demons or deceased humans can be restrained so they cannot get out.

Matthew 8:28-29 (NIV2011)

²⁸ When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way.

²⁹ “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?”

The demons that continue to exist on earth and tempt humans toward destruction know that they are restricted within a specific time frame. When their time is up, they will be tormented eternally in hell. Hell was created for Satan and his fallen angels and for all unregenerate men who follow demons and fulfill demonic “anti-God agenda” on earth.

Not all demons have been restrained because Jesus dealt with many demons during his ministry and there still exists much demonic activity on earth until present times. Demons seek to possess human bodies and influence humans so that they can express themselves and do evil on the earth. The demons that remain on the earth presently are in need of humans to fulfill demonic agenda on the earth.

But it is the special class of demons who were able to physically impregnant human women that were removed from the earth by God and placed under restraint with special spiritual chains to be held for the day of judgment. This special class of demons no longer is free to have access to humans on earth and that is why no human women have ever given birth to huge monstrosities (called Giants) since the time of David.
