Weapons
War in Mesopotamia was very important. This topic was very important because the mesopotamians believed that the gods had commanded them to conquer more cities. They believed in expansionism, which helped them provide more space for farms and that meant more food for the people. You always had to watch your back in ancient Mesopotamia because war was pretty common.
When war did happen, it was a grueling, gruesome, and violent process. It required lots of weaponry. Which leads us to the weapons they often used. The ancient mesopotamians most common weapons of war were adzes(a axe like tool) axes, spears, maces, and bows and arrows. Although chariots may not be classified as weapons, they were very essential for making your way across the battle site. Soldiers often carried swords, daggers, and sickle-shaped swords. Heavy armour was necessary to make sure you weren’t impaled by any weapons coming at you. Safe to say that you did not want to mess with an ancient mesopotamian warrior! (LS)

Battle Strategies
Another important thing that ancient mesopotamian warriors worked on until perfection was battle strategies. The warriors often took the opposing sides soldiers if they were caught. These people would then become prisoners of war and would go through painful and torturous things such as getting body parts cut off, make them blind, and much worse punishments. Different cities, such as Babylonian and Assyrian, had different techniques.
The Assyrians were often known for their horrible methods to bring fear to the opposing side. While the Babylonians would build dams in water sources nearby the area they were attacking, then break them and flood the city. Fear tactics and battle strategies were crucial for succeeding in battle. (LS)
