Baby Translator — Talk to Baby

This policy explains what Baby Translator collects, what stays only on your iPhone, and how we use children’s information.
Short version. There are no accounts. Original Chat recordings and album photos stay on your phone. If you tap Share to Reddit or Share Link, we upload a short video and illustrated poster we make on the phone (illustrated avatar + the sound) so you can post or send a public link. We also store a baby’s name, age, and a few profile fields, plus optional support messages and anonymous usage events. Translations are pretend entertainment, not real analysis of your baby. We do not sell your data or show ads.
1. Who we are
Baby Translator is an iOS app operated by the developer of Baby Translator (“we,” “us,” or “our”). We do not have user accounts or a public sign-up. If you need us, use Contact support in Settings.
2. Who this app is for
Baby Translator is for parents and caregivers. It is not directed at children, and children should not use it. You may enter a few details about your baby so the app can personalize chat and play on your device. See Information about children.
3. Information we collect
3.1 Information you type
• Baby profile. Name, optional nickname, boy/girl, whether the baby is under one year, age in months, and which illustrated avatar you picked. These fields are saved on our servers so they come back if you reopen the app on the same phone.
• Support and feature requests. If you send a message from Settings, we store the text you typed and whether it was support or a feature request.
We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or a password. Payment stays with Apple. We never see your card or Apple ID password.
3.2 Information that stays on your phone
The following is stored only in the app’s local storage on your device. Original files are not uploaded. Share to Reddit and Share Link upload newly composed media as described below:
• Microphone recordings (Chat voice messages)
• Camera recordings (Chat videos)
• Album or camera photos you set as a baby’s avatar
• Chat conversation text and on-screen replies
• Live camera preview and on-device checks (for example, whether a person appears in a video frame)
• On-device speech-to-text of your voice messages (processed on the phone, not sent to us or to Apple’s servers)
If you delete the app, this on-device material is removed with it, subject to how iOS handles app data.
3.2.1 Shared clips (only if you tap Share to Reddit or Share Link)
If you choose Share to Reddit or Share Link on an audio Chat recording, the app makes a new short MP4 on your phone using an illustrated cartoon avatar and the selected sound, plus a JPEG poster of that same illustrated frame. We upload these two generated files to Supabase. We do not upload the original Chat audio file, camera recordings, camera frames, or album photos. Cloudflare serves a page at a public URL shaped like https://babytranslator.app/s/{clip-id}, with a random clip identifier and a preview for that clip. Anyone with the link can play it or share it further. There is no public gallery; neither the page URL nor new media paths contain your anonymous user identifier. We store the clip identifier, anonymous owner identifier, media path, type, and creation time to operate sharing. We do not store baby names or Chat guesses with shared clips. The optional caption uses only unpersonalized, pre-written entertainment copy, framed as a guess, and is copied on your device. Share to Reddit opens Reddit’s submit form with that public URL. Share Link opens the iOS share sheet with the same URL after the clip is uploaded — it does not share the original file without uploading.
3.3 Device identity
On first launch we create a random device identifier and keep it in the iOS Keychain. We also sign the app into our backend anonymously so we can keep your server-side data (profiles, support messages, usage events) scoped to this phone. We do not know who you are. This identifier is not your name or email.
The Keychain identifier usually survives deleting and reinstalling the app on the same device. Data does not follow you to a new phone. Subscriptions restore through your Apple ID, not through us.
3.4 Usage events
We log simple product events so we can see whether the app is working — for example, that onboarding finished, a tab was opened, a purchase was attempted, a profile was saved, or a care activity or game was opened. An event may include an allowlisted catalog ID (such as an activity or game id), a result label (success / cancelled), the translate direction, and the app version.
We do not log baby names, nicknames, chat or recording text, photos, video, or audio. We do not run a crash-reporting SDK.
3.5 Purchases
Subscriptions are sold through Apple’s App Store (StoreKit). Apple processes the payment. We only learn whether this Apple ID currently has an active entitlement for our products. We do not receive your billing address or payment details.
3.6 Permissions
iOS will ask before the app uses the microphone, camera, or on-device speech recognition. You can change these later in iOS Settings. Refusing a permission means that feature will not work; the rest of the app still does.
4. Information about children
Because this is a parenting app, a baby profile can include a child’s first name or nickname, age, and gender. That is information about a child, provided by you as the parent or caregiver — not collected from the child.
We use it only to personalize the app on your device (for example, showing the name you chose in Chat). We do not:
• Ask a child to enter information or to use the app
• Upload photos of a child, or camera video of a child. Share to Reddit and Share Link upload only a cartoon-avatar video plus the sound you chose to share
• Use a child’s information for advertising or tracking
• Sell personal information, including children’s information
• Share baby profile data except with the infrastructure provider that hosts our database, as needed to run the app
If you are not the child’s parent or legal guardian, do not enter that child’s information.
You can edit or delete a baby profile in the app at any time. Deleting a profile removes those fields from our servers. On-device photos, recordings, and chat for that profile are removed from the app’s local storage when you delete the profile or the app, as applicable.
5. How we use information
• To provide Chat, baby profiles, Care & Play, and Settings on this device
• To remember which baby is active and show the name you chose
• To receive support and feature-request messages
• To understand aggregate use of the app (which screens and features are opened)
• To check subscription status through Apple
• To host a share video you asked us to upload, so you can post or send a public link
• To protect the service and comply with law
We do not use your information to train machine-learning models. The “translation” replies in Chat are pre-written entertainment lines. They are not generated by analyzing your baby’s voice, face, or video on our servers. Original Chat recordings stay on the phone; a share video reaches us only if you tap Share to Reddit or Share Link.
6. How we share information
We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not have ads in the app.
We share information only in these cases:
• Infrastructure. We use Supabase to host the database for baby profiles, support messages, usage events, and — if you tap Share to Reddit or Share Link — the generated share video, illustrated poster, and clip record. Supabase processes that data on our behalf. Original Chat recordings and album photos are not sent there.
• Cloudflare. Cloudflare serves the public clip page and its preview. As with a web host, it processes requests and network information such as an IP address to deliver and protect the page. We do not send caption text, baby names, or media contents to analytics.
• Reddit. If you open Share to Reddit, you leave our app and post on Reddit under Reddit’s terms and privacy policy. We do not post for you.
• Apple. Purchases, restores, and optional review prompts go through Apple. Apple’s privacy policy applies to what Apple collects.
• Legal. We may disclose information if required by law, a valid legal process, or to protect a person from serious harm.
We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or crash SDKs.
7. Retention
• Baby profiles stay on our servers until you delete them in the app or we delete the device’s server-side data after a valid request.
• Support messages and usage events stay until we delete them in the ordinary course of running the service, or sooner if you ask us to delete device-scoped data.
• On-device recordings, photos, and chat stay on the phone until you delete the profile, clear the chat, or delete the app.
• Shared clips stay in our storage until you delete the published link in the share sheet, we delete them in the ordinary course of running the service, or you ask us to delete device-scoped data through Contact support. Anyone who already has the public link may still have a copy.
• The Keychain device identifier can remain after you delete the app and may be reused if you reinstall on the same phone.
8. Your choices and rights
• Edit or delete a baby profile in the app. That removes the server-side profile fields.
• Delete the app to remove on-device recordings, photos, and chat.
• Delete a shared link from the share sheet after you have published one. That removes our hosted clip page and the generated files we uploaded. Anyone who already copied the URL may still have a copy.
• Request deletion of remaining server data (support messages, usage events, shared clips, and any leftover profiles for this device) through Contact support. Because there is no account, we will use the anonymous identity on the device that sends the request. If you have already deleted the app, tell us whatever you still have (for example, that you used Baby Translator on this iPhone) and we will help as far as we reasonably can.
• Restore purchases in Settings if you reinstall or get a new phone signed into the same Apple ID.
• Stop using the app at any time. Cancel a subscription in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or a similar jurisdiction, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict personal data, to object to certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The developer of Baby Translator is the controller of personal data processed through the app.
If you are a California resident, we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act. We do not use sensitive information to infer characteristics beyond showing the profile you created. You may request to know or delete the personal information we hold about this device through Contact support.
9. Security
Baby profiles, support messages, usage events, and shared-clip records are stored with row-level access rules so one device cannot read another device’s rows. Original Chat recordings and album photos stay on the phone. Shared clips are reachable by anyone who has the public link. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. Please do not put information in a support message that you would not want stored.
10. International transfers
Our hosting provider may store data in the United States or other countries. If you use the app from another country, you understand that information you send to our servers may be processed outside your home country, including in places that may not provide the same legal protections.
11. Third-party services and links
If the app later links to a website, community, or another service, that destination has its own privacy policy. This policy covers Baby Translator only.
12. Changes
If we change this policy in a material way, we will update the effective date at the top and post the new version at the Privacy Policy URL linked from the app. Continued use after the new date means you accept the updated policy. If we start collecting new categories of data — for example, if chat history is ever saved on our servers — we will update this policy before that ships.
