While Akili might have a 'moat' as a digital therapeutic, it's real competition is big pharma. The most accepted current therapeutic for ADHD is Methylphenidate known most widely as Ritalin. While Ritalin has undoubtedly benefited many it has also not come without controversy or consequences. It is often observed as being overprescribed or abused by college students as a 'study drug'. A study undertaken in Brazil of 5th and 6th year medical school students found: "(34.2%) had already used MPH, of which 35 (23.02%) had used it without medical indication". (Silveira et al., 2014)
