Meet Our Founder

A Childhood Shaped by Hardship

Wadson Maxilaire was born and raised in the small community of L'Acul de Léogâne, Haiti. He grew up in a family where poverty was not an occasional hardship—it was a daily reality.

As a child, he often went to school with an empty stomach and returned home uncertain whether there would be food to eat. His parents worked tirelessly to provide for their family, but opportunities were scarce, and resources were extremely limited. There were no shelves filled with books, no financial security, and no guarantee that tomorrow would be easier than today.

Yet even in those difficult circumstances, one thing remained constant: his desire to learn.

Wadson attended Nazareen Christian School from first through sixth grade. School became more than a classroom—it became a place where hope could grow. It was where he began to believe that, despite the challenges surrounding him, a different future might be possible.

A Turning Point

In January 2010, Haiti was struck by one of the most devastating earthquakes in its history. While the disaster brought unimaginable loss and suffering, it also became the beginning of an unexpected chapter in Wadson's life.

After the earthquake, a Samaritan's Purse base was established near his community. Through that ministry, he met people who saw something in him that poverty could not erase—potential.

They chose to invest in his future.

They helped pay his school tuition, provided school supplies, encouraged him when life felt overwhelming, and became mentors who believed in him long before he believed fully in himself.

Through their encouragement, Wadson also began learning English, a skill that would eventually open doors he never imagined possible.

What started as simple acts of generosity became life-changing opportunities.

Choosing to Keep Going

As Wadson entered secondary school, the obstacles did not disappear.

His school was located in the city, making transportation another financial burden his family could not afford. There were still days when food was scarce and basic necessities were uncertain.

Yet every challenge was met with perseverance.

Because faithful supporters continued to walk alongside him, he was able to remain in school and continue pursuing the education that was changing his life.

Looking back, Wadson often says that what changed his future was not simply receiving financial assistance—it was knowing that someone believed he was worth investing in.

That belief gave him hope.

A New Beginning

Years later, the opportunities created through education and mentorship led Wadson to the United States.

Today, he is a Certified Patient Care Technician serving patients with compassion and dignity while preparing to pursue a career in nursing. He speaks three languages and continues to dedicate himself to learning, serving others, and growing both personally and professionally.

As a child growing up in Haiti, none of this seemed possible.

But someone chose to invest in one child.

And that investment changed everything.

Why 509 Project Exists

Wadson never forgot where he came from.

He remembers what it felt like to sit in a classroom wondering if there would be food at home. He remembers the uncertainty, the struggles, and the people whose generosity gave him opportunities he could never have created on his own.

Those experiences inspired the creation of 509 Project.

Our mission is simple: to provide children in Haiti with the same opportunity that transformed Wadson's life.

There are countless children with extraordinary potential. They are intelligent, resilient, hardworking, and full of dreams. What many of them lack is not ability—it is opportunity.

Through educational sponsorship, school supplies, nutritious meals, mentorship, and encouragement, 509 Project seeks to remove the barriers that keep children from reaching the future God has planned for them.

Wadson's story is not extraordinary because he overcame poverty on his own. It is extraordinary because compassionate people chose to invest in him. Their generosity gave one child the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a different future. Today, Wadson is committed to doing the same for the next generation of children in Haiti.
