A big welcome to your child as they join our Cub Pack. Our group is part of The Scout Association and is the section that accommodates boys and girls aged between 8 and 10½.
CUBS HAVE FUN ! They also
■ make new friends
■ play games
■ earn badges
■ try new things
■ learn new skills
■ go on outings, visits and sleepovers
■ go outside and learn about the outdoors
■ create and make
■ meet new people
■ listen to stories
■ prepare our beavers to become successful Scouts
We provide an enjoyable and varied program and your child will have the opportunity to try out and learn new skills, with the chance to gain Badges and work towards other awards. To do this we play games, arrange local visits and hikes. We camp and learn outdoor skills and have adventures - climbing, archery, axe throwing, indoor caving, high ropes etc. We also participate in District activities such as parades for Remembrance day and Renewal of our Cub Promise on St George's Day, and special Cub events.
Pack Night for Cubs begins at 6.15pm and finishes at 7.45pm.
Badges
Cubs love to earn badges as these challenges teach new skills, inspire creative learning and instil pride in wearing them on their sleeve. We work on badges as a group and individually at home. You can earn your Artist badge, Animal carer, DIY, Home safety, Naturalist or Skater -and many more. When you earn your Challenge badges (Adventure, Outdoors, Creative, Personal, Team Work, Team Leader & World) you will be awarded the Chief Scout Silver.
Cub Meetings
We meet on Thursday evenings from 6.15 until 7.45pm at Methodist church, Kennington Avenue.
Cubs were founded by Lord Robert Baden Powell in 1916. His friend was Rudyard Kipling and Wolf Cubs were based on The Jungle Book. Our leaders are named from The Jungle Book - the Cub Leader is Akela (the Wolf). We also have Bagheera and Baloo, Chil and Ikki.
At the start of the meeting we have our Grand Howl - where the Cubs make a circle around Akela and a Sixer and the Cubs say ‘Akela, We will do Our Best’. We then raise and salute the Union Flag and make our Cub Promise.
Our leaders are all volunteers who give up their own time free of charge. We sometimes ask for parental help as we need three adults for indoor sessions and six if we go outside. Assisting our group is fulfilling, rewarding and a lot of fun! Please do get in touch if you would like to get involved.
